DLuders Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Nightwerty created a Lego Technic NJA 102 Tank with a nice suspension. He made some PDF Building Instructions for download (27 pages, 2.13 MB). They contain a Parts List, and are well done This has Nightwerty pointing out the construction details, and shows it rolling along. Quote
dolittle Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Hi, I was about to start building this and then I noted the unnice part of cutting existing LEGO parts into something not original LEGO part anymore... This is a downer for me. Thanks, Noam Quote
SuperCow Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I think you could use this part instead http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=87083 it will stick 1 stud out but then its original. Quote
DLuders Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 Nightwerty's instructions are to cut off the "studs" on two 6587 "Technic, Axle 3 with Stud" pieces: Big deal; the part is only worth US $0.01-$0.02 on Bricklink. If one did not want to cut the part, then grind down the studs on your sidewalk. SuperCow's suggestion to use the 87083 "Technic, Axle 4 with Stop" may satisfy the so-called "Lego purists" out there: . I wouldn't even bother making a special Bricklink order to get one of these US $0.10-$0.20 pieces. I'm just going to cut the axle length of the x1739 "Technic, Axle 8 with Stop" part to make it 3L instead of 8L: . It's easier and faster, and the part only costs US $0.05-$0.10 on Bricklink and I already have a bunch of them. Folks who dismiss Lego Technic MOCs like Nightworthy's (just because they cut a cheap Lego part) are missing out on some fun. Quote
dolittle Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Hi, I didn't dismiss it, i just said it was a downer for me. I hate cutting parts as I lose the original one, thanks for giving advice on the alternative part. Thanks, Noam Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I think you could use this part instead http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=87083 it will stick 1 stud out but then its original. Or this one: 3749 Technic, Axle Pin without Friction Ridges Lengthwise In this case it seems like poor design led to cutting bricks, that's not cool. But the suspension part of the tank looks great! This is a downer for me. Thanks, Noam Might not be a perfect design and cutting pieces is not at all a nice thing...agreed...but official Lego Designer do that all the time, gluing and trimming and cutting, in order for us to get all the new parts...at the end of the day is not a big deal. bord4kop Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I like this tank. It 's small, fast and works very well. With a minimum of parts it does everything very good! Also the building instruction are really cool! Nice work there Must have took quite some time too! Don 't cut any parts if you don 't wont to! Use your imagination en inventiveness instead Quote

Hi, I am not cheap on parts, quite the contrary, I rather buy the right part that I lack, then fix an existing part I have into another part I don't as I lose one and gain the other. That was my comment. Thanks, Noam Quote
