happymark Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 recent weeks I just could not stop buying lego, (in US), Toysrus, Walmart, Amazon, Target. and it seems that the price is getting cheaper and cheaper. e.g. in Amazon, buy 1 get 50% off, but seems still a lot of in stock. I know PoP are not selling well because of movie. but how about Toystory sets? even 10197 and 10198 are still there? and some Starwars sets as well. at least 20% or more below MSRP.. Is this normal? or people are tired? and it starts to slow? what do you think? Quote

The sales serve two purposes: to clear the shelves and make room for new 2011 merchandise, and to ensure you buy holiday gifts at this store rather than their competitors. That's my assessment, anyway, and it's just based on guesswork. There might be other factors in play besides the holidays, but that's the factor I know about that is likely to influence prices. Quote

I can't resist Lego sales and Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us and even Borders and Disney have had sales recently. Just ordered 100 of the Snowtrooper battle pack. 97 of them shipped and they said that they are now out of stock. Or they are cutting me off. Ever since Target effectively shut down the after Christmas Lego clearance and Lego started in with more and more exclusive sets, my shopping patterns have changed. Before, I could expect a wide variety of large Lego sets to go to 70% off. Now, I'm happy to get 30-40% whenever I can. Quote
buddy Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I too agree that all of these great sales are because of Christmas, for example I just ordered 2 10199s at half price. WOW, you've spent $6000 on Lego in 2 weeks, including 100 battle packs. ~buddy~ Quote

Seemed really strange to me that SO MUCH was on sale this season, but then again I haven't been into it in years past like I have this year. But... far be it from me to complain about it... Quote

Do you run a Bricklink store, or just collect armies? Going back to the original topic, another point is that the majority of these sets are older ones, and are selling slower than the new sets. To make up for this, the prices are dropped. This combined with the explanation of new sets coming out should give an idea of why sets are placed on sale. It does seem as though set sales have slacked off over the last few years. I can remember Amazon putting Mars Mission at half off, and, even better, getting a couple of At-At sets at half off! Amazon used to put dozens of sets at 25-75 percent off over the holidays, but now, it seems to be a dollar or two off poorly selling sets for a regular sale. Sirius Quote
autobrick Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Too bad the same can't be said north of the border in Canada. The sales recently have really tapered off, and were a lot better a month ago. It seems Amazon.com has a ton of killer Lego deals, but of course, they don't even ship Lego to Canada (Amazon.ca doesn't even sell Lego...). Not to mention that even at sale price - which are rarely more than 25% off - we are still paying the equivalent of US MSRP (or more), despite the decent exchange rate. I've only bought one set in the past month, so I guess the upside is I've managed to save some money for 2011 sets, when they do go on sale! Quote
