Well, the best way is: "Don't even think about it!!!"

But then again... I now and then also have no other option and then use superglue (5 second glue or so).

Superglue works the best if you are not going to take it apart.

I did a school project with my son where he built a vehicle that was partially LEGO, and the bricks couldn't handle the torque - it kept falling apart. Superglue worked great.

Gluing lego is just ok, but I only recommend it for minifig customization. Yeah, superglue is the way to go, bonds fast in 10 seconds or less. Just try to use as minimum as possible.
