General Train questions.

Hey all,

I've been hanging around the forum lately and have noticed a great deal of topics where people ask questions about 'power functions' and

'how to....' but while these are great, there hasn't really been a general question type topic. so I asked the brickster if it would be okay to start one and He gave me the go-ahead so here it is.

Feel free to ask any questions, on any any train related subject and im sure many of the forum's subjects will help out.

I'd like to bring things to an open with my question:

Recently I have been attempting to make a moc of one of my favoriteEnglish steam engines

the southan railway T9 and having laid out my plans and just about to think about bricklinking parts. I stopped. as always rushing into things I had seemed to forget about colour scheme..... I wanted the engine to be a dark blue with white trim, but I wasnt sure on what colour I should make the coaches. I wanted them to fit in perfectly with the engine but I am not entirely sure about colours.

Can any of you help me?

To answer Gondortoast's question (nice username by the way) I think a nice brown and tan colourscheme will go down well, as bright coloured coaches may deter from the MOC itself. Like the Emerald Night carriages.

As for my question,

Can you use the 8881 battery box on the Emerald night and still have lights,xl motor and an IR receiver?

I was thinking more a of blood and custard(yummy) style, as it would look good against the dark blue, contrast or something like that .

Im not an expert on all of this powerfucntions jibberyjew but I think it could work, but like I said IM not an expert so dont hold me to it!

Yes, but it's larger than the rechargeable one. I'd wait and get this one on Bricklink, or wait and see if they add it to S@H after Christmas like someone told me was the rumor.

Hi, I think that halfpenguinhalflego answerd the question. I do recomend blood and custard (but which shades of red and tan/yellow will you use?).

Also what size do you plan to make it 6,7 or 8 wide? Im only asking this is that the bigger it is the easier it is to fit pf inside.

well it'll be normal tan, just out of convinience (the emerald night windows) .

And I'm torn between 6 or 7 wide, the engines 6 (or will be 6) wide but i love the slightly more amount of detail you can get on 7 wides.

but I have yet another question, what doe the LRTS sticker stand for?

Tan is good. If you want excellent looking 7 wide coaches then may I recomend looking at Bricktrix's Flicker and his Brickshelf.

Im not sure what the LRTS sticker stands for myself, Although its based on the LNER train Flying Scotsman so I links its something similar.

Tan is good. If you want excellent looking 7 wide coaches then may I recomend looking at Bricktrix's Flicker and his Brickshelf.

Yeah I'm aware with his holinesses work . I've quickly made up a 7 wide plate, but it was one gigantic headache so I think i'll save the paracetamol and go six wide .

At the end of this endevour I would like it to look like this:

whether it does or not.... well we'll just have to see!

Hmm... are you a purist, cause if not it might make the boiler desin a bit easier?

Or even go 8 wide as it gives more detail (But I would say that as i'm an 8wider myself )

How many coaches are you planning btw?

Yeah Im a purist, which does make things harder .

but in the way of boiler design im using a slightly changed version of savvatheaggie's boiler technique, should be fun to build.

I've also changed the design of the windows, but I'm keeping that under wraps .

but I plan for 3 coaches: 2 composite and 1 brake coach.

How do you find all of the pieces from yur model on LDD on bricklink so easily?

There are apps, e.g. BrickHelper, that can take a .lxf and give your a parts list.

Can anyone tell me what size this pieceis? because it looks the same size as the other wheels on the train bogies, but I'm not 124% sure....

Yes, it's the same size. It fits on Technic axles so is used on train motors or brick-built bogies.
