DLuders Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) On , Searme/ Sariel (Paul Kmiec) posted his first-ever walker -- a Lego Motorized Octopod Walker. His Facebook page presents it, and the Building Instructions for the legs are available from his website http://sariel.pl/downloads/ (PNG images in ZIP archive, a 1.60-MB download). This Octopod is within the reach of many Lego Technic builders, and looks like great fun to build! When made public, images will be available from his Brickshelf gallery. For the complete explanation and additional pictures, see http://sariel.pl/2010/12/octopod/ . P.S. If you do not have software to "unzip" the file, you could use http://www.winzip.com for a free, 30-day trial. The rubber tip for the legs is the 45590 "Technic, Axle Connector Double Flexible (Rubber)" part. Edited December 5, 2010 by DLuders Quote
Milan Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Impressive! Simple but effective! Since I saw John Deer's forest walking machine, I was immediately interested in LEGO mechanical walkers, but never tries actually building one. Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Minimalistic walker! Well done to get both movements from one motor (leg lift and rotate), the chassis drops a fair bit but it still works! Quote
dolittle Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Hi, Instead of winzip which is commercial you could use 7zip which is opensource and free not forgetting that 7zip is also cross-platform and works on Windows, Linux and Mac. Thanks, Noam Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Yeah! I forgot to mention 7-Zip like I intended to, but dolittle took care of that! It's great! http://www.7-zip.org/ Quote
grohl Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) Great walker. Simple but very effective. Edited December 7, 2010 by grohl Quote
CP5670 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 The leg mechanisms on this are fantastic. The multiple degrees of movement and nonlinear speeds give them a very natural look as they move. Quote
bord4kop Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Great! It even seems to struggle each time it advances yet another step (at the front I mean), so realistic! Quote
DLuders Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 arvlego made this of a large "walking lego tank based on Sariel's 'Octopod'": Quote
