I spend alot of time on brickshelf looking at clever building techniques that a few truely expert builders have come up with, things that I never would have thought of in a million years. But then there are some people that get lazy or they just are`nt smart enough, that use glue to modify a creation.I really hate to take the time to study how they did it and then realize that legos can`t be combined in that way, they were either cut with an exacto knife or glued.

I mainly watch the mecha folders for new ideas that I can use in my own models.I really like the stuff that 'legomaster and moko' create.

Is it just me or has anybody else noticed that some of the building techniques on brickshelf have been used in real lego sets?So your cool idea is being stolen by 'the lego group'!You`d think that they would be cool about it and add on the box "inspired by" and give you some acknowledgment.I know they do take ideas cause 3 years ago I have seen ideas from those models being used in those 2 little hover scooters in the new space police hq set.

Just a small rant, bionicle is`nt mecha!Bionicle if anything would be the sub-skeletal frame inside a mech,or a mech with all its armor removed.Plus its just way too easy to build one and make it look like it took weeks. So I ignore all of these wanna-be posters.

What exactly is your point? That Lego should hunt down who came up with what technique? That people shouldn't use glue in MOCs? That bionicle is not a mecha? This topic needs to be more specific.

I think what "benhead" means to say is:

TLG (if they are using MOCcer's ideas) should at least notify them, expressing interest in the design of their MOC, and how they wish to use it in an upcoming set.

Those who glue parts together should say that they do, where they used it, and if there is another possible way of getting te same effect without glue.

Hope this is right, and clears up the confusion.

It's impossible to be sure that any MOCer came up with a certain technique and was then copied by another. Especially Lego Set Designers.

The nature of MOCing means that you can build a model and solve a design issue with a clever idea and post it online, only to find someone else has also done it or has done it before. It becomes a real issue on some sites where "small name big ego" builders or even "big name petty ego" builders catch someone else using a technique "they invented" and cause all sorts of plagarism arguments.

Here, so far, it seems to be a non-issue. Even I myself have come across an unusual combination (Indy hat with firman mask for space cowboys) to discover it was used before by someone else to make a Cad Bane (which I didn't see, as I am not a star wars fan) but it was all cool.

I think the one definitive "rule" is, if you really did build a MOC after looking at someone elses and made one using ideas they had you should credit them.
