phoinix Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 unfortunatly cyprus didnt make it ...she was amazing thow..!! gongratulations to the ten that made it in the final and to Armenia esspecially!(its the first time they take part in the contest) i laughed a lot with Lithuania and their song...all it said was "we are the winners of eurovision..vote for the winners" thats all!!! and they made it !!it was a great surprise!! so the final is tommorow..lets see what happens! who do you think will win???i think russia will do very well but i hope carola from sweeden dosent! (dont like that girl) Quote
Khorne Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I'm quite happy Belgium didn't make it to the finals, the song is quite crappy I think. My parents watched Eurovision last night and I saw the Belgian performance, which was as crappy as the song itself. Quote
snefroe Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 i'm quite pissed Belgium didn't make it. According to all bookmakers we were even supposed to end in the top-10 of the actual contest... You obviously missed it, but the greek director clearly didn't know what was going on, at some point, he even started filming the legs of one the male dancers, instead of the singer's... Once again all observers told us we'd end in the top 5, but for some reason, we never do. It even goes back all the way to Clouseau, and that's easily 10 years ago... I'm also wondering what this contest is all about these days, but it hardly has anything to do with music at all... Seen Finland? wtf is that?! Nice going Eurosong! it seems the crazier the act, the more chances you have to win... My guess is that you most of all have to have an active public that is willing to vote for you. Turkey for instance doesn't have to have a good song, it has communities in all other countries that vote for Turkey, whatever the quality of the song. We, Belgians, don't have that, so we, Belgians, are screwed... Quote

You obviously missed it, but the greek director clearly didn't know what was going on, at some point, he even started filming the legs of one the male dancers, instead of the singer's... the director was not greek ..he was german.. EBU has the authorisation to create and organize the contest and the country that holds it helps them and provides them with some equipment..some is brought from abroad thow..i think sweeden and germany are the co-producers of the contest this year..i have to agree with you the direction didnt do you any favors..it was bad..but i didnt like the belgium song as i saw it on stage..it sounded good on the radio and on the video-clip but didnt seem so well on tv IMO... :-) Quote
phoinix Posted May 20, 2006 Author Posted May 20, 2006 so..the grand final is tonight!! in about 5 hours from now OAKA stadium will light up and welcome the entire Europe and about 150 million viewers will tune in to watch the show!! i wish good luck to everyone but since cyprus didnt make it to the final i stand behind Greece and Anna Vissi with her great ballad "everything" (thow her outfit does not do her any favours) Vissi is actually from cyprus so she kind of represends both countries!! We will know the big winner of this years contest in a few hours so tune in sit back and enjoy!! :-) phoinix Quote
Scnicker Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Umm... why are you taking this so hard? I must oppose your ideas on Turkey. The fact is that we're doing somewhat well in recent years before that, it was a total disaster. If what you said was true, we'de be pillaging all the awards since a very long time. There may be communities in other countries, but keep in mind that there are LOTS of people that hate us. Quote
jof Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 OK, Its now on the TV & I must say I am never sure if its worth watching or not. The eurovision coverage in the UK changed about 6-7 years ago from being a semi serious program that no one watched, to having a comedy coverage with funny commentry about the bands, like comparing them to other bands etc. Since this change we no longer feel we have to watch this as there is nothing else on, we hold eurovision parties, (ok, invite a few friends round) partake of several alcoholic beverages and laugh at the entries. There are several countries who take this competition seriously who would frown on this behaviour, but think about it, isn't it better that more people watch, even if they don't take it as seriously as they do. Think about previous icelandic entries, and this years finnish entry. I think its brilliant, inspired & just whats needed to shake things up a bit. (Although the voting bit at the end should be speeded up - who are we to comment anyway it can't be any worse than those of us who can recognise which colour bricks have never been released in a lego set at the pick a brick shop!) Now I'm off to watch some more with Mrs Jof & the other half of a nice bottle of rose! Jof [update 10:30 BST - 11:30 eurotime] Excellent, the Finnish are storming ahead, confirming the fact that the eurovision needs a bit of a shake to wake it up! Quote
The Hordesman Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 NOVUS ORDO MUNDI! Finally some change in the eurosong contest since Abba! No longer we will have the a copy of the same winning song every year! Revolution! Quote
Khorne Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Yeah, Lordi was great. Gotta love the act. It was the best song of the entire show, hands down... Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Haven't seen a minute of it but I have to congratulate France for its brilliant result: 22/24 !! Yeay way to go France way to go !! X-D :-| *yoda* Quote
phoinix Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 france germany UK and spain otherwise known as "the big 4" tend not to do well at the contest and there is a reason for that...since not all the countries take part at the final because some of them get cut at the semi people dont vote for the "big 4" which go each year at the finals ...this is one of the rules of the contest mainly cause these countries "co-founded" the contest and pay a big amount of money for it... so people vote for the other countries to pass to next years final (the top ten of the final move directly to next years final along with the big 4) hope this makes some scense... So yes finland won the contest and congrats to them!!! i personaly voted for Lithuania they where SO SO SO funny!!! it was hilarious!!!finaly some fun at the eurovision! I hoped Russia to have won! the boy was AMAZING and well done to them for second place! this contest seems to be getting harder and harder as competition rises to higher levels with more countries taking part and better songs (like this year) i also liked Croatia with an ethnic dance..Uqraine and the lovely girl!and Armenia was a BIg surprise this year!it was their first time that they took part in the contest and they moved from the semis to the final an ended up at a very good possision (8) Greece gave a great show i have to say! it was very well organized and the direction of the final was better than the semi-final... So eurovision 2007 will be held at Finland! and this is their first victory!! well done lordi!! Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Tks phoinix for the heads up ;-) I missed it this year !! I think the whole concept of the "big 4" is stupid and unfair to other smaller countries !! Prime has to be given to "talent" and nothing else !! Once again those contests (like Cannes film festival...) are way too politicised (if thats a word :-D ). Politics should stay away from those !! I haven't seen the French show but the author of the song (I never heard it also) is a great guy and a great author (Corneille). He survived the Rwanda Genocide and his texts are real !! They have a real meaning and are full of emotion !! He is really talented and has a great voice as well !! So I guess that his song was crap then hehe !! *yoda* Quote
