missouri_bb63 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Hello all. It has been almost 1.5 years since I built my last MOC but now things are slowly picking up. I made this Lego vignette as a gift for friends who recently had their first child. An anomaly in the image of the ultra scan a few months ago, made the child's eyes appear as if he was wearing a Spiderman mask. As the parents had not decided on a name at the time, he was nicknamed "Spidey". The theme of the vignette is based on this, and the fact that they live in Boston. The two landmarks I included are the George Washington statue which can be found in the Boston Public Gardens, and the Federal Reserve building which can be seen in the background. I tried to create a "forced perspective" with the latter by putting it into and behind the clouds, as well as putting some other parts in front of it. The gift comes with a card which has a picture of the vignette and shows the thoughts and voices of the characters in the scene. In the main scene we have baby Spidey riding on Judge (the family Mastiff), chasing his first villain (and making a mess of the town). The parents are looking proudly on although the father is also wondering how he will ever get his son to join the Red Socks with all those distractions. I made this model in MLCad first and sourced the bricks through Bricklink. Check out all the pictures (which includes the back of the vignette, the card, the actual Boston landmarks and a "non-spidey" version) on Flickr or leave me a comment and rating on MOCPages!. Of course comments are welcome here as well! Edited November 25, 2010 by missouri_bb63 Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Wow, this is truly a lovely creation.. I'm pretty sure the recipient will be happy to have this wonderfully-designed gift. I really like the nice scene it depicts, the forced perspective sky backdrop is very nice to look at, and the Spidey kid is very cleverly built. Great overall job on this missouri_bb63! Quote
prateek Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Very cool! This compliments the back story really nicely. I just love the mini Spidey Quote

missouri_bb63 Posted November 26, 2010 Author Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) Hello all, thank you so much for you positive comments It is my first "arty" venture into Lego and it was a lot of fun. Reading your reviews last night motivated me to spend a few hours working on my latest MOC (still in MLCad at the moment). I am planning on getting that done before the summer (a very large house with interior and detailed garden...which happens to be a gift..again..) I am glad you guys like the baby. The baby technique is not new however so I can not take credit for that (although it is definitely the first baby spidey I have seen) . The techique can be found regularly on various Lego sites but I would not be suprised if it was inspired by one of my favorite builders, brickshelf user "mijasper". I haven't seen the forced perspective done like that before though and I am quite pleased with that. I would love to hear more of your comments including constructive criticism. This vignette was a lot of fun and I don't think it will be the last. Ideas for improvement and new techniques are welcome! Edited November 26, 2010 by missouri_bb63 Quote
