CorneliusMurdock Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Here's a hint of what I'm working on for the Winter Village contest... This will be the main minifig for my entry, Dr. Grant Smiles, Dentist. My original idea was a little scarier but my wife convinced me to tone it down. That's also why he isn't posed with the drill. This is the first time I've made a decal. I did it in Paintbrush which is the Mac equivalent of MS Paint. Quote
jonwil Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Nice dentist. Where did you get the hair? Quote
LuxorV Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Neat custom dentist, CorneliusMurdock. Sure makes for an interesting twist on the Winter Village contest Nice dentist. Where did you get the hair? It comes from Clone Wars Anakin. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 The Dentist looks great! Nice custom torso decal, I could actually see the 'tooth with toothbrush' logo on the pocket. Good job Cornelius and looking forward seeing your whole entry. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. I was worried after taking the picture that it looked too pixilated. Would designing it as a larger file help that or does that happen when it gets resized for printing? Quote
LuxorV Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 You could try increasing the resolution of your image before starting to draw. Or save at a higher resolution from your drawing program. Do not increase the resolution of the finished (.jpg, .gif or .png) file because that would not help. Being resolution measured in dpi, i.e. dots per inch, the bigger the resolution, the more the dots per surface unit, the more the dots, the smother the line when printed (given the actual size of the image [in centimetres or inches] remains the same ). This is something I'll remember. Very interesting point Luxor. Anyway, this time our doc can say he got the coat hand sewn :D New models at Zara / H&M have all that kind of details. :) Quote

Thanks, LuxorV. Yeah, I was thinking starting with a larger image to design on. The template I started with was rather small, I'll find or make a larger one next time. I hope this one still looks good enough for the contest, though. I would hate to have start over again with it. Quote
LuxorV Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 PErsonally, I think it looks good. You have nothing to worry about Quote
