Flare Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 For my 500th post I have decided to post a little MOC that I enjoyed building. I present to you: Ostrich Joust. I focused a lot on improving my sand techniques... and enjoyed using some of my newly received ostriches! Thanks for viewing. Thanks for viewing, opinions and ideas are appreciated! Quote
Piratedave84 Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 HAHAHAHAHA!!! Good stuff, This made my day (and it's only 7:47 here!!!) Very original and funny! Your sand technique is real good it gives it a "rough" surface look! Pirate Quote

Aanchir Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 That is some very nice sand. And the concept in play here really takes the cake. Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Cute, although I get shivers looking at it, I'm scared of ostriches Quote

Masked Builder Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) Very nice Flare! Your sand is great! Edited October 28, 2010 by Masked Builder Quote
Admiral Ron Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Very nice, the very idea of such a thing makes me laugh! Perhaps give them shields? oh well, keep up the great work! Quote
Flare Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 Very nice Flare! You sand is great! Thanks Masked! Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Haha, clever! Nice sand! But should they not be on separate sides of the lil' fence? I've had ice cream made of ostrich eggs, that was jummy! Quote

I've had ice cream made of ostrich eggs, that was jummy! Yah, technically the should be, but I didn't add the fence in until the very end... and I didn't feel like ripping up the sand. Thanks! Very nice, the very idea of such a thing makes me laugh! Perhaps give them shields? oh well, keep up the great work! Good idea, Admiral Ron, I think I'm going to have to make a v2 now! Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 This reminds me of the old NES game Joust. The ostriches just need wings. Quote

Captain Blackmoor Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 A funny little scene indeed, I just don't like the slopes in the sand, otherwise it is just perfect. I don't know why but the fence adds a lot to the whole scene too! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Nice one Flare! This MOC truly fits your Knighthood. BTW, how come both jousters are at the same side? Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the little I know of jousts, shouldn't the two competitors be on opposite sides of the fence? Just a small nitpick. Quote

Skafte Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) If you wish to comply with the nitpicks and make it historically correct with the fence between the knigths, you can easily put the fence diagonally across the vig, adjusting height issues with 1x1 round plates. And swap the ostriches to horses. And the sand to grass. And.. Well, that takes all fun out of it, right? Nice work! Edited October 28, 2010 by Skafte Quote

Blondie-Wan Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 This reminds me of the old NES game Joust. The ostriches just need wings. NES game? It was an arcade game first and foremost; the NES is just one of the many platforms to which it was later ported. When I came into this thread I expected the MOC to be specifically about the game, but the differences between it and the game scenario, combined with the fact that the post quoted here and one other response to it are the only ones who mentioned any version of the game at all, lead me to think a lot of EBers aren't acquainted with this arcade classic, which disturbs me just a bit. Am I that much older than everyone else here? That said, though... nice work! Quote

I said it that way because that's how I think of it. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Thats great! But all they need is Sheik Amar watching! Quote
Millacol88 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 That's excellent! If I were the knight I would want my visor down...wouldn't want to get a lance in the eye. Then again, If I were the knight, I'd be riding a horse, not an ostrich. ~Millacol Quote
Flare Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Thats great! But all they need is Sheik Amar watching! Haha Actually I don't have that set... (I have acquired 7 ostriches in bricklink and trades ) Quote

I don't think you're older than everyone else, but those of us who remember when the NES was launched are probably a minority on EB... Quote
