MattZitron Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 The Original UNALTERED Trilogy on DVD in September. Thank you Lucasfilm. THANK YOU!!!! Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Tks soooo much for that news Matt !!! What a great day for me today !! Buiding the new ISD and I will finally own the "real" classic SW editions !! Tks Lucas for that *wub* !!!! Now what will I do with the crappy versions I have... X-D Classic *yoda* Quote
jonfett Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I have never seen these versions, the first I saw was the edited release in 1997. I am sure some will say that this is another Lucas money-stealer but I would love to get them. Jon. Quote
Andrex Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Hmm I wouldn't find it to be the best SW news ever in my opinion, but still this is interesting. Also with the LSW2 release announced for September, it is nice for a release date confirmation. Thanks for that, to be honest I probably will not buy them since I have the trilogy on DVD now, and I wouldn't really want to buy it again, but nevertheless nice for the true classics to return. Deinonychus Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Another dual DVD/Game release...neat Only this time I don't have to get the DVDs because I'm one of the few people who could give two craps about the unaltered versions...which I already have 3 different copies of on VHS anyhow :-P Long live the Special Editions! X-D Quote
JoeMI6 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Although this is so awesome, i am slightly annoyed that they'll be bundled with the SE as well, as i've already got those. But i can't miss out on the chance to see Han shoot first! X-D Quote
Zane Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 But this can't be the best Star Wars new ever. Anyways, every time you think you've found the best thing something better turns up. Its a matter of opinion anyways. Aaaanyways, I suppose this is good, but not as good as the SW/LEGO licence... -Tilius- Quote
mutley777 Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 does anybody know if these are going to be full letterbox version. not the widescreen ones we have got on dvd at the moment. Quote
Cutty Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Hooray! This is a great accomplishment by Lucasfil, to bow down and give the REAL fans the service they deserve! I for my part WILL buy this DVD-set and own it, and keep it till the end of frackin' time, just so no fat bastards can come over and claim my StarWars OT from me! ;-) ;-) No really, I think this is what GL should have done in the first place, releasing the OOT and the OTSE alongside each other. And being grown up solely on the OOT (how it should be done ;-) ) I majorly prefer the classic cinema releases. Even more so after I saw how desperately unneccessary some changes and how half-assed other (more important) changes were dealt with. But all this meddling has now an end! Finally I get what I wanted on DVD, and I'm happy...still not at peace with StarWars, though. Quote
SuvieD Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 If the original ewok celebration song is there then I am all for it. That seriously ruined the last movie for me. Some of the newer special effects were good and the movie still had the "magic" but after the celebration started I was like "Oh no he didn't!" with all the neck snapping and finger waving. The whole movie died at that moment. :'-( But if that is fixed now, who cares? X-D Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Heh, I bought the OT DVD box a while ago, but haven't watched it yet. I heard it had Hayden Christensen in it at the celebration, and some other crap I don't like. I also have the remastered trilogy on VHS, but I never saw the 'original' original trilogy. Might pick it up if I have the money for it :-P Quote
UltraPrime Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 The remastered versions were pretty much same as original, just cleaned up. The only major difference is that originally the first film was just called Star Wars - no Episode IV A New Hope subtitle. I've got the ISD tin box around here somewhere... Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Nice, Its about time GL gave us the original movies. I NEED EWOK SONGS! :-D Quote
languages Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 When are the going to release a DVD box set with all the movies in? Quote
UltraPrime Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 2007 is 30th anniversary, so I wouldn't be surprised to see something then. Though I am worried it may not make it onto DVD, and go straight for one of the HD formats. Also, it has been confirmed the original films will be the laserdisk versions, so they are not anamorphic! That sucks >:-( Quote

The only major difference is that originally the first film was just called Star Wars - no Episode IV A New Hope subtitle. Are you sure about the episode IV bit. Its been on the front as long as I can remember & I'm an old man with a 7 year old kid! When I last videoed it from TV I wasn't impressed by the messing (sorry re mastering) on the origianal star wars. Where had the millenium falcon greebling gone! Its not supposed to be a smooth/sleek spaceship (thats what made it work so well in lego) & where have all these obvious CGI creatures overlaid on Mos Eisly space port come from. So as you can see I would be more than pleased for the classic version to make a reapperance for my kids. After all there are a lot of films that have been ruined by a remake. Why do you think that no one has ever tried to remake Fritz Langs Metropolis? (Now there is an idea for a MOC project) Jof Quote
