Etzel Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 We are all familiar with the Toy Story set 7595 Army Men on Patrol, but this is the smaller version with only one soldier and a smaller jeep. It's a promotional polybag set and I suppose it will be available in some special way, maybe through the Mirror newspaper in the U.K. as some other TS promos. I got 3 of this set at a LUG meeting the other day and have no idea how it will be distributed. Set name: Army Jeep Set number: 30071 Theme: Toy Story Pieces: 33 (not incl. minifig) + 2 extras Minifigures: 1 Year of Release: 2010 Price: - Inventory on Bricklink This is it, a polybag with the set number, recommended age (pttf, like LEGO is a kids toy. We AFOLs know better.), logotypes of various kind, a picture of Woody and Buzz and of course the set itself. And out comes the pieces, but not all are green. All lined up. Nothing special here, everything has been made before and is quite common. The extras consists of a black lever and a trans-green round plate 1x1. Quick and simple instructions, no colour difficulties It shows pictures of two Toy Story sets from the first line, 7509 Woody and Buzz to the Rescue and 7593 Buzz’s Star Command Spaceship. The minifigure is the standard green solder as we've seen 3 of in 7595. It is with other words not a very special minifig and you can get them quite cheap. I've seen some creative uses of the green head but to me the torso and helmet is the good parts. Give the soldier yellow or fleshie head and hands and it's ready for some more realistic war action. The green is a bit bright for most areas, but I think it would fit great for a jungle army. Building the base, green and black and grey. It would have been fun if the whole set was just green but I on the other hand I don't think green tires would be very useful. The final car. The antenna makes it look like it's radio-controlled, maybe that's intentional because the car lacks any form of steering advice? A 1x2 panel works as a windscreen but it might be hard to look through it. Back, Front Here we have the jeep with it's driver. All set to conquer the world or being shot in a ditch, you decide! Some thoughts about this set. As a set this is quite boring. Just a common minifig and a simple vehicle. Sure, the minifig can be good if you're an army builder but you can get 4 of them with a better jeep much easier. Green is a colour I like, not as much as it's darker version but it's still very useful in MOCing so in that part the set gets a +. Of course, the ones that really wants this set has to be some kind of craz... hrmm, serious collectors with a taste for unusual and rare sets. Parts: 5/10 Some are useful but this set isn't a parts pack, not at all. + for the green colour though. Design: 4/10 It's a minimalistic car with a design similar to every other small minimalistic cars LEGO has made. Minifig: 5/10 Common minifig, has possibilities for nice modifications, army building material. Playability: 3/10 Well, it's a car with wheels so it can run on the ground if you like. I bet this car would have done better in the ULV-race(Ultimate LEGO Vehicle) I participated in last weekend then the car I had then, I suck at building vehicles Price Availability: 1/10 Really poor so far, but it might change. Overall: 4/10 It's nice to get for free, like I did, but if you aren't a collector I don't see why you should buy it for more than 3€. Get the 7595 instead in that case. Do you wonder what important mission our soldier was up to? Here it is: /Etzel Quote
prateek Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Nice review. I had no idea this existed. I like it a lot, compared to other promos. Quote
