indyman09 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Superb review. I would like to have the set, but it's just a little bit too expensive Quote
Geertos13 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I got this set mostly for Brickfilming for purposes = that means = the minifigures ! They're gorgeous, however they went a little cheap for Filch hair indeed Quote
Hartfan Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Great review. I wish they can make one day the whole castle set. Not small part of it. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Excuse me? This set is packed with play features! What's missing for you? Catapults? Trap doors? More secret compartments? Flick-fire missiles?? Respectfully, as a new member here and a new Lego builder as well - yes! Throughout the books and movies, Hogwarts is depicted as a place that is loaded from dungeons to parapets with quirky magical "play features" including trap doors, secret passageways, moving stairs, transforming bathrooms, disappearing rooms, paintings that double as doors, poltergeists that like to fling things at students, and many other neat things. I would have expected Hogwarts to be the "Imperial Flagship" of the Harry Potter line, especially the Hogwarts set that is being released with the final movie(s), and I think it could have been designed with more of these oddities in place, even if it cost more money. Clone O'Patra mentioned several features that could have been improved. I agree with all those points and would have liked even more. The price for this set is already out of my reach, honestly - but if it had possessed more of these features and cost another $40 or so, it would have been something that I could justify saving up for. As it is, it's just not that interesting to me. Actually, seeing as Hogwarts is such an important (and huge) location, I would have really liked for TLG to do a modular Hogwarts, releasing it as three or four sets with serious detail and playability that combine to become the whole castle. I know this is not really how Lego works, but I think it would have produced a wonderful Hogwarts. And hey, they could have sold more minifigs that way, too. I would have liked a set that includes Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and a greenhouse. Quote

I would have liked a set that includes Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and a greenhouse. If Hogwarts were the "Imperial Flagship" of the Harry Potter theme, that would mean it would be a LEGO exclusive set. That means hardly any stores besides LEGO stores would carry it, and most people would have to get it from S@H. As it is, it's more like the Portal of Atlantis of the Harry Potter line, which means it has a generous helping of minifigures and a huge, ornate design but not by any means enough rooms to constitute a complete "castle". A modular Hogwarts would be cool (I collected many of the modular segments from the first two waves), but I reckon that doesn't have the same appeal on a shelf as the current all-in-one edition. The version released for Order of the Phoenix had an amazing amount of interior detail but (for me, anyway) was underwhelming on a shelf and never really earned my respect until much later when I decided to read the instruction booklet online. Speaking of which, if you can pick that one up online it's got a rather gorgeous greenhouse included. It was also loaded with play features. But the overall appearance was less-than-impressive, at least from the exterior. Quote
Quibbler Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I don't mean to sound mean, but you always say how the new Harry Potter LEGO, is better than the old LEGO, I was crying last night and my Family had to come and comfort me because you keep making me cry. Please, Please just leave the old Hogwarts Castle alone it's my favourite Castle and leave the old Harry Potter stuff please! Quote

Please take care in what you post or a moderator might just get a little upset with you. Granted you are entitled to an opinion, but please a mature response is all that is required. A notable reviewer on a site which critiques LEGO commented on the quality of an old set! How do you cope? Edited July 8, 2011 by tj19941994 Quote

Don't bother LT, we've been through this on Clone O's The Burrow review. Soon, he's going to come on and say that that was his 7(or was it 9) year old son wrote that and to not be rude... Yes, the castle from 2007 did have some nice details (and the woman everybody hates: Umbridge= ), but it felt too open, like as if the walls didn't exist. Quote

Your 7 (or was that 9? Apparently his age changes between review) year old grandson made my great, great grandson cry because he was saying the old figures were nice looking! I'll give you a right two-four if you don't straighten up and fly right you old scallywag! But seriously, can someone please end this nonsense. I don't think anyone is really intreseted in these reviews at the moment, so their constant bumping is surley pretty redundant. However, this guy has a good comedy value about him. Quote

Yeah, I'm confused now... In the burrow review it's his 9 year old son, now it's his 7 year old grandson? how many people share the name? Maybe whoever actually is "Quibbler" needs to sign out when they're done browsing, that way they're son, or grandson, dad or grandpa, dog, sheep, ghost, bread, whoever doesn't continue this. Quote
Ferrik Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I agree with some of the faults you pointed out, but I still think this a quite a good set, at least better than the past three versions. Quote
