Aw, now that's just too COOL, dam it I want one of those Guido's now....though it's odd to see him in that position - doesn't he change tyres.....it would be a bit hard holding a loudhailer or is that meant to be a microphone ?

Keep on burning rubber !

GUido?! Really? He's already in 3 sets. Why couldn't it have been another character from Radiator Springs? Big Red? Doc? Sheriff? Ramone? Hell even Chick or the Legend guy(name escapes me).

You can still find it with a quick search though:

That actually looks pretty good. I had no idea they were making that. Even though it's not done by PIXAR, the animation looks great. I'd definitely love to see sets of these planes, but I don't think it's very likely that they would make sets for a straight-to-DVD movie. Heck, I think there's a higher chance that we'd get sets based on Mater's Tall Tales. :sceptic:

I got back from seeing the film just now. I've been warned a couple of times about talking about the POTC film in the POTC thread, so all I will say is that it's more fun than the first film, but still not at the level of the Toy Story films. Maybe next time...?

Unlike POTC and their 'Fountain of Youth' set, the Cars range is actually pretty faithful to the film. All of the characters are fairly important as well, except for the Japanese race car in that one set who doesn't actually have any lines, but I guess they needed a third race car and he fit in best with the nationality of the set.

Grem is completely the wrong colour, though. He's more like Ron's hair at the top of this page. They had the colour, why didn't they use it?

I don't think there are any major characters from the second film left out, only Doc Hudson from the first film and a couple of other residents of Radiator Springs.

I'm not sure why they chose Francesco for the third Ultimate Build. Finn McMissile would have been a much better choice, and indeed other toy ranges tend to put their emphasis on him.

"See, THESE guys know how to respect the Caine."

I'd like to see more of the Ultimate Builds in the future, but something tells me this just isn't happening.

OOH and keep an eye out for the Lego minifigs in the Toy Story feature at the beginning! Lego and Disney... totally BFF.

Awesome. I cant wait to see it as well as my fiancee. She cant wait. TRU has a deal this week (at least my TRU does) Spend $25 on ANY Cars 2 toys and get a $10 voucher movie ticket to see Cars 2.

We bought the $6.99 McQueen and Fin McMissile set.

I just got a TRU Rewards coupon for 20% off and a $5 rewards coupon. Im gonna get the Lego Mack Truck today and get another movie ticket voucher.

Dude, spoilers :cry_sad:

Which bit is the spoiler? It's been common knowledge for a while now that there's a Toy Story short at the beginning of Cars 2. The Lego isn't much of a spoiler, and seemed an appropriate thing to mention here.

Oh I know it's a Toy Story short, it was the appearance of the minifigs I meant. Era no worries, it's minor!

Anyone planning on checking out the film this weekend?

I sure am! But I think this is a bit off-topic. If you want to discuss the movie, you should do so in the multimedia forum.

I agree. I would have been much more inclined to buy him than Francesco. They could have included lots of neat play features such as pop-out guns and flick-fire missiles and stuff. Not to mention all the light blue bricks we could have gotten... :sadnew:

That is hardly a spoiler. Nothing to get so upset about. :sceptic:

Which is why I revised my initial post with the one you quoted, it was probably an over-reaction. I just like to know absolutely zilch about movies as much as possible prior to seeing them!

After seeing the movie my fiancee and I agree, the ultimate build Francesco should have been Fin McMissile. However Im sure the idea was conceived but perhaps the compromise was made in that McQueen needed someone to race?

That could be very true. Really, having just seen the film myself, Francesco is a fairly major character, so having an ultimate build of him is not so far fetched. Also, Fin being so smooth, he may be hard to pull off even on a big scale. Just look at the Ultimate Build McQueen, he doesn't look great. Francesco looks very good at the big size. I think LEGO just wanted to give a nice variety, and any kid who's seen the film would probably like to have both a big McQueen and Francesco to race around.

That, and it would have probably been pricey to make such a large set that mostly consists of medium blue bricks.

Anyone else see the film this weekend? If not, anyone planning on seeing it this week?

Not me. People in my family keep getting excited about it or the upcoming Harry Potter movie, and I keep having to remind them that the next movie we have to catch in theaters is the fourth Pirates movie, which has already been in theaters for a while. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Cars 2, since I always love Pixar films, but I have a feeling that like the first Cars movie, it may be one I don't end up seeing until it ends up on DVD.

I do hope that I can see it before it leaves theaters, of course, because it'd be nice to have some perspective on who some of the characters from the LEGO sets are. I've read about some of them online and they all seem to have very interesting personalities. While most of the commercials for this movie that I've seen seem to present it as a comedic kids' cartoon, I have high hopes for it-- I just don't know if I can get my act together in time to catch it while it's still in theaters. And yes, I know I've got quite a while.

I just watched 'Mater's Tall Tales' and I think it's useful to see this before watching the second film, if you can. It creates a kind of transition from the slow daily life of the first film to the adventure of the second film. Also there are some genuinely funny bits as well, including a hilarious reference to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
