If those british flags are printed I'm going to have to get some of those!

These licensed Cars sets seem to be undoing all the work LEGO did around 2003-2005 to simplify their colour palette...

How? 323 Aqua is the only color in the Cars theme that wasn't on the palette since last year. Other colors like Sand Green and Magenta (124 Bright Reddish Violet) are obscure, perhaps, but are fairly old colors that have been in sets both before and after the color palette simplification between 2003 and 2005.

Just to clarify, these are the six new colors which we know are upcoming this year and possibly next. Only the third one has appeared in this theme. The first has shown up in Alien Conquest, the fourth will be showing up in some extended-line products, the fifth will be used in Collectible Minifigures Series 5, and the second and sixth haven't been spotted at all in any LEGO products. Chances are most of these will end up being used in 2012's new girl-oriented theme.

I have a bad feeling it is a sticker on a new 6x6 tile with simple 2x1 grille tiles down the sides....but it works.

Oh, well that DSS shouldn't be that bad then.

Keep on burning rubber !

Yeah, the printed tile/sticker appears lighter than the actual pieces around it, so it's definitely that.

Wow, I've been mentioned on the front page!

Anyway, while the characters are nice, the tower itself seems unfinished and fairly empty. It will probably be pretty expensive too, so I'll give this set a pass.

I was at work today (Walmart) and found all the Cars 2 sets in the back room, in boxes labeled "Do not stock to floor until May 16."

Thought that was strange as it seems people are already picking them up.

Is this date also the launch date of the Cars series? Because I just went to the store in search for some sets, but I couldn't find them yet.

The second color, medium azure, could be used for some of the cars characters too.

Btw, how many different shades of blue do we have now??? Is it really necessary?

I'll be aiming to get Flo's V8 Cafe since it has a lot of the major characters in it by the looks of it (never watched the first Cars movie so I'm not sure if I'm correct with that statement). Can anyone direct me back to the post that has the prices for the sets again?

I haven't seen any colors that obviously stand out as Medium Azure, but it's not as obvious a color as Aqua. And even Dark Azure was hard to recognize as a new color in some Toy Fair pictures unless someone told you it was new.

It's true, I'm not sure how fond I am of the number of blue colors we have currently. But consider that these three new blue colors can kind of be considered modern-day replacements for Light Bluish Green (BL's Aqua), Medium Bluish Green (BL's Turquoise), and Bright Bluish Green (BL's Dark Turquoise), which haven't been seen in years. It's true I'd have preferred something a little further towards the green shades, but I have greatly regretted the disappearance of that portion of the color palette so anything filling that empty space in the palette satisfies me.

There will be between 60 and 70 colors on the palette after the addition of these six. In 2003, there were more like 90 to 100, possibly more (all the physical color palettes I have seen from that time have some rather glaring omissions). So it'll likely be some time before the reduction of the color palette is completely undone, and in the meantime I'm sure some rarely-used colors like Light Royal Blue (BL's Bright Light Blue) may end up getting removed from the palette to compensate.

That's correct, but why do you want the characters if you don't even know who they are?

You can find the prices for most of the sets on S@H.

I have an admiration of just vehicles in general. Most cars or things with wheels tend to amuse me  . When I get the chance I will watch the movie so I know the background of the characters and such. I have been told it's an alright movie.

I was surprised to see that most of the Cars sets were on shelves today. It's a bit odd when a set you only knew about for a week suddenly appears in stores.

I didn't see them today, but I'm wondering if I should get Mack, the Spy Jet Escape and the V8 Cafe. They've all got nice characters, but the Spy Jet stands out because replacing the windshield gives you a perfectly normal jet.

Well, maybe the open rear be handy to jump from eh ?:laugh:

As of yet some of the sets for the new film have not filtered though in Oz yet, which is good I'm running out of money !

If a lack of interior and an almost completely open back is normal for you, yes.

It kind of is, yeah. We can't have detailed interiors with most sets, and some won't have interiors at all.

So, I got three sets today, being Lightning Mcqueen, Mater's Spy Zone and Escape at Sea. The printing is quite nice on them, and I was surprised with some things, such as the printed bricks that Mater has (I think those are my first printed bricks).

Cars 2 were out at my TRU today and they were 20% off along with the POTC stuff. Of course this is really only 10% off casue they marked them up 10% already.

Compared to POTC, Cars 2 sets are a little cheaper !

Funny to see now other countries are getting the sets out now when some Australian retailers have had them out for a fortnight....hence my reviews.

Keep on burning rubber !

Yeah, I've been surprised by the prices and the release dates too.

I saw the V8 Cafe today, and I considered buying it. However, I'm going to have to really save up for Star Wars, so I decided against it.

Anyway, I've officially completed my collection. I've bought all the small sets, and I have a total of ten characters (or eleven if you count the ship), so I'm pretty happy with that. :classic:

I had early reservations about simplified pieces but I've overcome them and have to say I'm really loving this theme. Somehow the cars look better in your hands than they do in the photos.

I picked up Mack and Flo's V8 Cafe the other day and they are both great sets. Sarge and Finmore are particularly nice models.

Doing all those stickers on Mack was a bit of a stress but I managed to get them all lined up without any major dramas.

Looking forward to seeing Cars 2, the movie.

Looks like some Aussie's have been to BigW to get Flo's V8 Cafe.....one of you planning a review.....I've done my four in 24 hours - I was stuffed after that.

'Delta38', I believe the collection is bigger than 10 or 11 vehicles ? Check the back of a large Cars2 instruction book....over 2 pages worth of models of course including the different designs of Mater and Lightning.

Keep on burning rubber everyone !

I picked up Mack today at TRU. Got 20% off +$5 reward coupon + $5 off $25 purchase so I paid $27.31 for it. Didn't buy anymore cause I'm going to orlando today and am going to the lego store there tomorrow...plan to drop a few coins there :-)

I was talking about the sets that I own, but yes, you're right.

It's nice that they have a checklist at the end of the instructions. They should include more things like that for minifigures in licensed themes, perhaps.

The Cars 2 sets are probably cheaper because they don't include minifigures. Minifigures are very expensive to produce compared to other pieces because they often have prints on multiple surfaces and pre-assembled parts. Cars 2 sets have a lot of printed parts including a few with printing on multiple surfaces, but not many pre-assembled parts. There also aren't parts with very complex painting/printing like some of the hat/hair pieces in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Not sure if this is the place to post this, but I just found this on FBTB. It's a Lego remake of the Cars 2 trailer similar to the one done for POTC 4, but IMO it's much better. Hope you like it!

Thanks for the find 'Cad Bane'......oh, even funnier in Lego especially the last one of Mater in the wrong toilet ! By the way how do they go to the toilet......on second thoughts I don't want to know.....leave it to Discovery Channel to find out !

That is just too cool! There have been other lego-fied trailers before, but this one is spectacular! The animation is superb, from the wheel poses to the facial expressions, and the whole thing looks exactly like the real trailer! Hats off to whoever worked on this.

I just have one question...

WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THEY MAKE ANYTHING LIKE THIS FOR TOY STORY?? :sing::cry_sad:
