Hi , i'm new to this place. So i hope i'm posting in the right section? I am looking for help to workout how to get hold of Designer Han's building instructions for the upgrade of the 8421 crane to the xl crane. I have the parts list but am unable to download the building insructions. My computer skills are very poor to say the least, so i don't understand any of the tech stuff on his site. Any help in getting hold of these instructions would be of great help to me. Many thanx Pete

Hi,

he has not made instructions for it, but only a mlcad model. I want to make some simple pdf instructions for you if you want.

@ Squizz: Welcome to Eurobricks. :classic: "legolijntje" is correct -- Han does not have Building Instructions to convert the standard 8421 Mobile Crane to a "8421 XL", but he does have the Parts List (as you noted). It's on http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/ ; look for the "8421 XL" button on the left side of that webpage. I would accept legolijntje's offer to make a PDF file from the MLCAD file available on Han's website. You will have to exchange e-mail addresses somehow, or wait until you have at least 10 Eurobricks posts so that you can send "Private Messages" (PMs) to each other.

The 8421's Building Instructions can be downloaded (page by page) from BrickFactory: http://www.brickfactory.info/ (search for the set "By Number")

first question in the FAQ section of Designer Han's website:

http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/faq.htm

Why are there no Adobe PDF building instructions available for the 8421 XL Mobile Crane?

I developed the 8421 XL mobile crane in 2006 and at that moment the original Technic® 8421 mobile crane set was still sold by The Lego Company®. I did not want to publish the building instructions on my website from legal and etic perspective, because The Lego Company® did NOT publish their own building instructions at that time on their website.

As such, I never made building instructions in Adobe PDF format. So, the only material I have are the MLcad files... and I don't have plans to invest time in generating the Adobe PDF building instructions.

Gidday Legolijntje, that sounds absolutely fantastic! Does that mean you could create some building instructions to turn original 8421 into the xl 8421? At the present time i have 2x 8421 sets and have been collecting extra parts needed from hans part list, then i realised there where no instructios that i could access with my limited comp skills.....so your offer if i understand you correctly, would be a really BIG help. Finding this forum has been a great find for me. Thanx for everybody's help so far, Cheers Pete.

Ok I say it when the instructions ar ready. But it are not instructions to upgrade, but it are whole new instructions, and it are only simple instructions, made from the mlcad model of Han.

Good timing on an 8421 thread. I just finished building the MLCAD file of the official 8421 set and I was happy to get involved with this wonderful model again. I have not built Han's Xl version, but I've always meant to. I have rendered it though.

Gidday Blackbird, thats a great picture you've created. It shows a very differnt angle that i have not seen yet. I have been studying the Brickshelf posts on the xxl 8421 but this shot shows me some intersting aspects. I really do not understand the process you guys go through to create these amazing renders. Thanx pete

@ legolijntje: I downloaded your 8421 XL Building Instructions and unpacked the 75-MB Zip file to find your 80-MB PDF file. The 198 pages you've done are really good. I have an 8421 set that I want to upgrade into Han's MOC. Looking forward to your "Part 2" Instructions! :classic:

Thanks! I now, it's not a big difference (75 & 80 mb), but 80 mb was too big. :hmpf_bad:

@ legolijntje: Your "Part 2" PDF instructions are also very good. The 44-MB download contains 135 pages.

Did you e-mail "Designer-Han" at Han@designer-han.nl to tell him about your Building Instructions? He may not know about them, and may provide a link to your PDF download site (or maybe even post the two PDF files on his website http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/index.htm ). I think that he would be pleased. :classic:
