Daedalus304 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) Hello everyone! This is my first MOC I've posted here or elsewhere, for that matter. Today I have a Miniature F-302 from the TV series Stargate: SG-1. I only have a handful of pictures, but can easily take more if you would like. EDIT NOTE: There is a altered/updated version in this post down below. The F-302 is a multi role fighter developed by the Tauri (Humans of Earth) based off of alien technology. It's capable of flight in atmosphere and vacuum, and utilizes inertial dampeners. The 302 has multiple engines, the two jets on the side, the rocket in the rear center, as well as a pair of Aerospike engines. The three most prominent engines of the 302 In addition to this, the F-302 also has a hyperdrive; although thanks to the unstable power source it can only make short and uncontrolled jumps. The 302 is armed with a pair of rail guns and generally has a few AIM-120_AMRAAM missiles along the bottoms of the wings, though thanks to the scale I couldn't find a way to include these. I tried my best to capture the large, swooping wing shape. A few compromises had to be made with the scale but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I couldn't find any way to attach the wings other than using the stand like I did. Here's a picture of the ship for comparison, if you so wish. And here's the Brickshelf Folder with some more pictures If anyone's got suggestions that would be cool. Criticism and comments are very welcome! Oh! And I can answer any questions too... though with a model this small I'm sure there's not many mysteries to it. Edited October 9, 2010 by Daedalus304 Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 One word.....COOL ! Nice little micro space ship 'Daedalus304' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Legostein Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Hello! A good attempt at the F-302. I'd like to suggest something to improve the characteristic shape. Instead of using the 1x2 plate with two clips, use only one 1x1 plate with one clip. This allows you to pull the outer edges of the wings a bit forwards. Because the wings a not straight, but slightly angled. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote

I've been a bit concerned that that approach would exaggerate the gap between the wing and the body a bit too much, but it's still worth a shot and I'll give it a shot and see how it looks! To be honest there's a lot more details I'd like to include (And a couple I'd love to fix ), but I don't see any way... which is why suggestions like this are nice to hear! XimenaPaulina Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Pretty neat mini Daedalus! Very Legostein-ish (complement), good job on the overall nice-looking shape. Quote
Daedalus304 Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 Thank you! I've actually been toying with a couple alterations, and have a couple new pictures. I think it's probably more detail-accurate now but I'm really not sure how I feel about the wing gap. I really love Macro Mode on my camera =D The wing gap is a little large, but having them slightly rotated like that let me put in some hands for stabilizer fins. They're a little off the shape and size I need but I think a close detail is probably better than a skipped detail, huh? The whole ship is a wee bit bent in this picture, from trying to handle it and the camera at the same time. Even still, the shape is closer to the original... I think the head-on is where the new fins look the best... but it also shows what I think as the biggest flaw with it (the reliance on the stand to hold the wings) Anyways, that's the last of my new pictures. It's certainly a bit more technical now but I'm pretty happy with it. Again, comments/criticism/suggestions are welcome and looked forward to! Quote
Legostein Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Hello! Well yes, that's exactly what I meant. Looks much better now and much more accurate. And it even gave you the possibility to add more details. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
SilentMode Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Whatever the alignment of the wings, I think it's a really cool micro-scale model and would be great as an impulse set. Imagine a whole fleet of these things displayed in one's bedroom. Quote
Milargo Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) What a cool miniature starship. Love the first version, the second version thought more detailed, the gap is a bit too large to justify in my opinion I'd much rather have recived this in Brickmaster than, say Click. Daedalus304 Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Thanks again for all the kind words and helpful criticism everyone! This is my first miniature, so it's really nice to hear everything you have to say! What a cool miniature starship. Love the first version, the second version thought more detailed, the gap is a bit too large to justify in my opinion I'd much rather have recived this in Brickmaster than, say Click. I'm still not sure about that gap myself, I've been working on trying to find ways to fill it in/avoid it altogether. Glad you liked it anyways! Quote
