DLuders Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 On MOCpages, Fred Ottens shows his Lego model of a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner convertible hardtop. I've seen the real car at local car shows, and it's a BIG American "land yacht" that folds its hard rooftop into the trunk (boot). A few pictures of the real car (with its hinged roof) comes from the Muscle Car Club. "They don't make 'em like that anymore!" Fred Ottens' MOC has suspension and a detailed engine. He wanted to make the Lego model with an electric roof, but it would be very difficult to replicate the real mechanism (from snypermc2005's ): Quote
Legostein Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hello! The folding-up and concealing roof top is a great feature! It seems to work really smoothly. My favourite design aspect are the side spoilers built by the 2x4 curved bricks and 1x2 panels. They're embedded very harmonically with the entire layout. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
grohl Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I really like the car and all the details, the only thing I would change is the roof. I would prefer it without studs. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Wow, this is incredibly accurate. I'm surprised the roof actually folds into the trunk, at first I just thought it could be taken off and stored there, but then I saw the hinge pice. Awesome find! Quote
Blakbird Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Anything that they could make functional with sheet metal in 1959 you should be able to make functional in 2010 with LEGO. Quote
