Hello all,

I will be vacationing in San Diego for Christmas this year, and am interested in visiting LEGOLAND California. However, I checked the ticket prices and was shocked to see an adult ticket is $67 USD! I couldn't find any existing topics, so please point me in the right direction if need be.

So...I was hoping the LEGO community could help me out with some questions I have to help me decide if LEGOLAND California is worth visiting. I know what the website has to say, but I want to hear honest opinions.

1. What does $67 get me? What exactly is there to see and do at LEGOLAND California to justify that price?

2. Will a non-LEGO enthusiast (i.e. my wife) enjoy going as well, or is this something I need to do with other LEGO fans?

3. Has anyone had any luck finding ticket discounts?

4. Is there a LEGO product store, and do they ever run any sales or have any exclusives?

I may have some follow-up questions once I receive some feedback, so please bear with me. I would really appreciate any help you can provide, thanks!

I went during the Summer, so I will try to answer these the best I can.

1. Its just like any ordinary theme park. Rides, food, and shows.

2. Anyone who goes will have fun. Its not building or doing LEGO, but rides and things to do. But I must say, the rides are designed for little kids, so don't expect any big roller coasters.

3. LEGO has always charged high fees, and I have never got any discounts.

4. There is a store, and they have a lot of stock, so I woudn't worry about that (Unless you are looking for collectable minifigs  )

I hope I did you help!

There are several ways to get discount

you might want to check here:

(not sure if lego master is still available though)

by the way, costco have San Diego Go Card for $140 (including Seaworld/Legoland/Zoo and a lot of others).

I've got all the minifigs I need, both Series 1 and 2.

Is the store inside LEGOLAND, or can I just go and check out the store? I'm really not interested in the rides, if that's really where all the money for the ticket is going.

Thanks for the replies so far, I really appreciate it.

I believe you can get a pass for just the gift shop/stores at the front gate? That's if you just wanna run in to the shops and get out, or something like that.

Pick up the phone, give 'em a call.

The LEGO Store is inside LegoLand, and I don't think you can get in there without paying for rides. Yes, the ticket goes towards rides mainly.

I've been to Legoland California twice with my family, and have enjoyed both times. The admission price goes towards the upkeep of the park, and to create the BIG Legoland displays. If you're going to be in San Diego anyway, I would recommend going there. The in-park store is quite good (better selection that at the various Lego stores in malls across America), but you could get the same merchandise by shopping on Shop.Lego.com. The rides are not all for kids; there are some adult-sized rides that are quite good.

P.S. Here's a place that will chop $3 off of the admission price (which is better than nothing): http://www.goingtocalifornia.com/pages/amusement-parks/legoland-california-tickets.html .

P.P.S. On the Legoland California webpage http://california.legoland.com/Explore/shopping/ , there are some pictures and merchandise info about the various items for sale there. :cry_happy: Bring extra, empty duffle bags with you on your trip so you can haul your loot home!

Not quite. I read in a thread in this section that someone said you can get a shoppers pass. They gave more info about it, too. It's only good for 1 hour though. Depending on how big the park is and how many shops, that may not be enough time...

Just an update on my LEGOLand California visit.

My Father-In-Law got my wife and I tickets for Christmas. Its a long story, but apparently he got them for free from someone who won them in a raffle but didn't want them.

It was neat to see all the models and whatnot but the rides are really geared more towards kids. Glad we didn't pony up the $$ for the tickets.

We found some harder to find sets at some of the shops, but were dismayed when we presented out LEGO VIP card and were told they don't accept VIP cards any more because they are no longer owned by LEGO...wtf? They had a ton of both S2 and S3 minifigs, but I already have my set of each. Got myself a neat t-shirt on sale, which has a LEGO Boba Fett minifig on it.

Yeah, unfortunately, back when the TLG was in danger of bankruptcy, they sold LLC to Merlin Entertainments group. The two still maintain a couple offers, like the promotion where you get a free child's membership when you buy $75 at a Brand Store (ended, sadly), but for the most part, the two have their own offers and discounts. LLC also applies a slight price increase to some sets.
