The recent discussion we've had about the differences/ similarities between Model Team and Creator have made me wonder where I should put this. The Town forum perhaps? Whatever, I think of it as Model Team, so this is where it goes.

I haven't been building much in the last weeks, but I did manage to find the time to build a new car. I'm a member of LUGNuts, a group for LEGO car builders on flickr. We have mothly challenges that involve building a car with a particular theme. This month's theme was 'Big in Japan'.

I'm not really a fan of Japanese cars and I'm not really a fan of the car I chose to build, but unlike many Japanese cars you see on the roads of Europe, at least the Toyota Prius is recognisable.

I chose to build the car in fashionable white. The environment may matter to Prius drivers, but Toyota did themselves a favour by giving the Prius a somewhat odd-ball shape. The shape offers low drag, but also makes the car popular among people who are like to project an image of being environmentally friendly. A Civic hybrid just doesn't have the same snob-factor.

The car has opening everything, as usual. The doors ended up being rather thick as a consequence of the half-offsets I used in the construction, and in particular the front ones are a complete bastard to close. I should probably rebuild them using one of my sliding/hinging constructions.

IMO it's not a pretty car, but I am reasonably happy with how my model of it turned out.

Cheers,
