bluebird Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Hi, Basically want to try and get into Lego again, and I have abseloutely no idea where to start, budget isn't high but Christmas is when I'll have more money so looking into fairly cheap ones. I like Lego City the most but whatever really, need fairly easy stuff but I like a challenge, so if anyone could reccomend me a good starting point and where to go from their. Thank you ;) Quote
Aanchir Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 There's two ways to start. One way is just deciding which sets look cool and fun, then buying those (it's good to stick with a single theme often because the shared color scheme helps with MOCing). Another way is deciding what sort of stuff you would like to build, then seeing which sets have the parts you need. This latter option is not too great, though, because in my opinion a lot of the fun of LEGO is in using parts in innovative ways, and it's hard to brainstorm what you'll do with parts you don't yet have. A third, and fairly new, way to start is LEGO Digital Designer. It comes pre-loaded with a great assortment of bricks, and if the part and color selections aren't vast enough to satisfy your imagination there's the special unlockable "LEGO Universe Mode" with a MASSIVE part variety. To unlock LEGO Universe mode, use the guide found in this topic. Digital Designer won't give you the same "putting-plastic-parts-together" sensation, but it's a great, completely free way to experiment with parts you don't own and find out what sort of subject matter you enjoy building (as well as what building styles and techniques will help you do it). A new version is due out sometime soon (allegedly this month, but it may have been delayed). Hope this helps! Happy building! Quote

CMP Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Thanks man I want to do the City I think, any specific products you suggest? Plus I'm pretty poo at just putting pieces together hoping to create something I like to build the ones from the box iof you get what I mean, thanks :) I'd suggest one of the basic City sets for now. City Corner (I think it's called) has 2 little shops and a bus, with a decent assortment of City figs. Another is the Public Transportation set. It's mor expensive, but it comes with a car, bus, tram, a little station, and a small shop. Good luck. Quote
CP5670 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Yes, the City Corner is a good place to start. It has a bit of everything and the price is reasonable. Quote
rakky Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 If you do go for the city idea you should look into getting some of the lego minifigures from the individual minifigure series as they might give you idea for scenes, also they are quite cool. Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 True city corner is a great starter, plus if you can get it the 7993 service station and the new 7448 TRU truck with it's cute little toy shop are great sets to help make your town/city. You try also finding instructions for earlier sets and update them yourself by using LDD to practice MOC building or a like. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Vindicare Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Take a look around here at the reviews(can't remember off hand)that should be indexed and pinned at the top of the sub forums to get ideas of the sets. Also, even just to window shop, take a drive to TRU or a store that sells a lot of lego products, another way to familiarize yourself and see what's available. And of course, Brickset.com. Quote
