Nosaj Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) I am working on building a vast sea with various pirate groups, red coats, blue coats, and possibly other navies and was thinking. So basically I am planning on having a few fleets under different commands (right now I have Brickbeards crew being worked on as well as Redbeards, but I may add Ironhook and some others) but I need ways to distinguish ships apart to show they are not a part of the same fleet. Redbeard has the classic pirates flag, and brickbeard has the close-in-resemblence 2009/2010 pirates flag. What are some other pirate-y looking flags that you would all find fitting in with the theme (pictures are great) I guess more offical navies (redcoats and bluecoats are covered I guess, but there were plenty of navies back then) are welcome here too. By the way, please try to deeplink photos if possible. If you are having trouble you could consult the tutorials on how to or just post a link ( ) Edited September 21, 2010 by Nosaj Quote
Captain Becker Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) I guess 4+ Pirate flags would be good idea, and you can always make your own custom flags if ya want Hope that helps a bit Captain Becker EDIT: Heres the Redbeards flag: My link And Captain Kraggs flag: My link If you want to make some Chinese pirates, this would be good flag: My link Hope this helped more EDIT2: Oh i forgot, you also want to make own custom cape to your pirates like this one Edited September 20, 2010 by Captain Becker Quote
Nosaj Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Thanks very much Captain Becker... Those are actually about perfect, and oriental pirates actually were an idea I had in mind. The entire sea with kind of be an ongoing project (for the next 10+ years ha) and right now I am working on getting my four main groups (Redbeard, Brickbeard, Redcoats, and Bluecoats... you may have seen me posting about the MOC ship I will be starting to make progress on tomorrow and probably post about in around 2 weeks [when I can make real progress] which will be Brickbeards, then I will work on some redcoat stuff, but I am getting too off topic so let me get back on topic now). After I have suitable ships/islands/forst for them I will probably move onto some regular merchant and regular people stuff then work on getting the Chinese pirates started(the third main group of pirates) and maybe a smaller group, where captain kraggs flag may be perfect. So I guess that was really a long rambly partially off topic thing just to give a thanks... Quote
Brig. Brick Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I have always had the idea of creating factions , and I think this is a good post to discuss it here are my ideas : ------------------------------ soldiers --------------------------------- bluecoats (of course) the commander: redcoats (can be split in two, new ones and oldies) the commander and\or The mighty Armada the commander ------------------------------ pirates --------------------------------- These can be divided into pirates and privateers, the latter being loyal to a kingdom pirates (flags) privateers bluecoats privater: redcoat privateer: Armada privater: (the hardest to choose from , personally I like this ) capitains (they can be pirates or privateers at will): (you shoul change the face of this one , just to avoid repeat) Turkish \ arabic pirate I want it chinese pirates ------------------------------ islanders --------------------------------- about the flag of the natives, I personally think that they shouldn't have, because the culture of the symbolism of the flag is not characteristic of natives but they have one! and about the natives, I see two types, the classic and new ones clasics new ones ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- that's it folks!!! Nosaj Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Thanks a lot Brig Brick... I actually completely forgot about the armada, and I am not sure if I will be including islanders in my sea, but there are others who will surley be use islanders for similar stuff. I am not entirely sure what i am doing with the redcoats due to the classic and new differences, but I will figure something out. Edit: I think I will (as soon as I get classic redcoats, as I dont have any right now) use the old redcoat cammander as the admiral and the new one as the governor... not positive yet, but it seems possible. SlyOwl Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I'll point you towards the Sail Library and the Decal Index, both of which have designs you may find helpful. Quote
Captain Becker Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Armada privater: (the hardest to choose from , personally I like this ) That flag could also be a very good in Chinese pirates as well dont you think? Captain Becker Quote
Claus von Nassau Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 That flag could also be a very good in Chinese pirates as well dont you think? Captain Becker i have to disagree, the dragon on the flag is historicly more a normandic dragon then a chinese dragon, but that is just my opinion, but for the armada privateer i would go for the flag of the bull- knight of kk1 Quote
Nosaj Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 That flag could also be a very good in Chinese pirates as well dont you think? Captain Becker I somewhat agree with Claus von Nassau on this one. Although I am not going for entire historical accuracy (or really much at all for that matter), thats dragon just doent say "chinese" to me as the first one you suggested did. Nevertheless, this thread is not just for me, but anybody looking for alternative flags, so maybe it will function better for another person as chinese than myself Quote
Brig. Brick Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I chose that flag because it is one of the most colorful, just as is the Armada ship. Usually the redcoats and bluecoats sides makes a reminiscent of the Napoleonic era , but that is a long time after pirates , between all factions, the Armada is the nearest to the era of the pirates, in particular by the use of armor and morion helmet, instead of shako. If I would like that TLG develop a new faction BlueCoat:pir-sweet:, I would be more happy seeing a new Armada, more minifigs and differents Galleons Quote
