oriyellow Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 well i want to buy a present to my nephew. im looking in lego.com main page in power functions stuff and i dont understand what parts r suitable for the motor lets say. my question is this: do i have to buy some technic kits for wheels or theirs a kit with only wheels and chains that i can connect motor to them. another question is that i see big kits and small kits for cars lets say. i figure that the motors dont go on small kits and only work on the larg kits? can u tell me from which kits i can take wheels and chain wheels to build cars? thanxs for the answer. Everything in lego is interchangeable. Any kit you buy will combine together. You should look at the kits with all features you are looking for, then combine them together to make the creation your looking to make. Quote
roamingstop Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Some models are designed to have power functions added afterwards. E.g. the Forest Tractor / Loader (8049) has instructions on how to add a PF-M motor to power the pneumatics, but does not allow the model to be driven with PF. The PF accessory set is basically a bunch of cables, motors and lights, and a few gears (cogs) but no other parts. In this case it is better to probably buy an existing official model which has the instructions for power functions, which can be added later. How much do you want to spend? Do you want a complete model or just a collection of bits? The Container Truck 8052 for example includes a PF M motor for powering the tipper, and is relatively inexpensive as a complete model as well. The Race Truck 8041 and The Dune Buggy 8048 have unofficial instructions (on line somewhere) for converting to remote control using Power Functions and the IR receiver. Quote
DLuders Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 The Eurobricks Lego TECHNIC Index has a bunch of "TECHNIC Set Reviews" to help you make your gift choice; scroll 1/2 way down the list to see them. Quote
