DLuders Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The Seattle, Washington (USA) BrickCon 2010 is coming up in a few weeks, and (so far) there are not any Technic-related activities for AFOLs to do during the convention. The List of Activities are mainly for AFOLs interested in other themes. I have a few ideas, but need some more from you who have attended other Lego conventions around the world. What would be fun? (1) Grohl's idea about building multiple MOCs from the same 8271 set -- a similar "Master Build" activity could be made using a currently-available, small Technic set (maybe the 8045 Mini Telehandler?). (2) Zblj's "International Techmeet" idea, where AFOLs bring their own Technic parts and build various Technic MOCs (from instructions) -- http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45867&st=0&p=802375&hl=zblj&fromsearch=1entry802375 . This may be impractical, since many people fly to these conventions and their parts trays would be TRASHED when going through airport security. (3) Any other ideas? Quote

grohl Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The small telehandler is a decent set for rebuilding and I had much less trouble with creating my own alternates than with the helicopter 8046. This activity could be a real fun. You can also organize a race with small IR cars that should be built in advance, of course. The other idea is to do something similar to the game with the gears on LEGO.COM. Two people with two same frames and one gear placed at the beginning, one at the end (some additional ones could be placed somewhere in the middle) of the gear assembly. They would have a plenty of different gears available. To solve the puzzle the first gear will have to be able to rotate the last one. The person that makes that first is the winner. Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) At the latest Lowlug-meeting there was a blind-building contest where could only see the instructions and feel the parts. And out ACC (allround car competition) is also really big fun, really reccomendable. It requires enough builders to make RC-cars in advance. Besides racing you can make variations like reverse-driving, parking, drive over (small) obstacles and precision-movements. Edited September 14, 2010 by Jurgen Krooshoop Quote

I really like this one, but it would be a bit costly in that everyone needs to have a set. Quote

You (organizer) could take a simple set, prepare a transparent plastic box (big), put a cover (from paper/dark plastic) over the top, with two holes for the hands to go through. This would allow the audience to see, while the builder to not Could be quite funny and fun :) Thanks, Noam Edited September 15, 2010 by dolittle Quote
allanp Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 What about a tug of war contest, contestants build a vehicle in advance and compete in a tournament style event. Some MOCs can pull some very heavy weights, 40-50 kg and upwards. Could be a bit short tho! What about a robot wars/battle bots style event where the only rule is that you can't have anything, such as a hugh spinning disk, that could potentially damage individual parts, especially rechargable PF batteries, that would be sweet. You could combine those two into a sumo competition. That would prevent damage to any parts, since it's not violent, and it might keep the "tug-of-war" from devolving into a competition of who can gear their vehicle down the most. Quote
