Hello Eurobricks. Now that I have a bit of spare time (cerfew around the city) and internet is availible, I thought I would take a quick minute to share with you what may happen, should you be in an earthquake.

I woke up yesterday morning at around 4:30. I wasn't quite sure what woke me, I violent shake of the quake, or the crashing sound of lego around me. None the less, I was awakened, and if I'm honest, then yes, I was scared. At first I had no idea what was happening (Hey, it was 4:30 AM, I was tired  ), but the earth was shaking and my heart had nearly poped out of my chest. About 25 secounds later, It clicked to me. I was in an earthquake. Then came a secound massive shake, and I was under a doorframe. Shakes continued through the night but nothing like those first 2.

I was quite lucky. I live in Chrstchurch, New Zealand. And In New Zealand we have a building code that ensures building are quake-safe, as all of NZ is in quite a Quake-prone area. Therefor, My family's house is OK, Unlike some of the other, older buildings:

A few roads aren't too great either:

(I take no credit for those pictures, I got them Off friend's Facebook pages)

Then, There's my lego...

All In all, I got off very lightly damage-wise. You can see various parts of various sets over the place, But it could have been far worse. None the less, I still think thats a solid 12,000 Pieces on the floor. But at least I still have a house, and now have Power and water...

Enjoy :)

now im more happier at i live in Finland where is no eartquicks, but looks at you legos :cry_sad: Now you have to find, sort, build every single brick and be careful at you look every inch of your room at you dont lost any small parts. That was must be a horrible experience when you woke up in the middle of the night and theres three massive eartquake waves  Anyway, i hope you will get OK and get your all legos sorted back. If you like take a cup of tea or coffe, sit down and think about what happened on that night, if i have experienced something horrible, that usually helps.

Hey Legoman. I've been thinking about you Kiwi cousins (and watching on Skynews NZ too). Glad things are okay for you and that everythings up and running again so quickly. That Y-wing and X-wing in the fifth photo looks like they hit the surface of the death star, like in the battle of Yavin

You can put legos together. You can't quite as easily put people and building back together. Just be thankful for that.

I totally agree. I (and my family) have been incredably lucky, we're all OK. My lego is nothing. Quite a few houses need to be totally rebuilt. My room isn't even mine at the moment, I'm staying in my brother's room because we have another family staying with us who have been evactuated from their nailed house.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand that I can't talk - My life isn't totally ruined

I am sorry to know that NZ was struck by this unexpected natural disaster. I can't imagine the trauma of one being having to experience an earthquake. Personally, I think LEGO is secondary in this kind of scenario and I am thankful that your family and other fellow New Zealanders are safe. It will take time to re-construct your stuff but it take an even longer time to re-build the City.

I hope my other fellow NZ buddies like Draggy and 3D Brickthing are fine too.

Wow you're lucky. All you have to do is rebuild your sets and MOCs, whereas some people have to rebuild everything! Glad to hear that everything is alright with you though :classic:

Yeah, They're fine. It really only hit the Christchurch area, and they're both in the North Island, where it was barely felt. I'm more worried for my fellow Christchurch members, like evil_elmo and such.

Lego is definately secoundary - I really only posted it because this is a lego forum. I'm praying for the rest of the city's rebuilding. Although I personally haven't seen most of it, as we're being told not to go out, if we can avoid it.

Look on the bright side- Now you won't have to force yourself to take apart the DS2 when you need large amounts of grey! I live in a quake-prone area, too, but we haven't had a big one yet.

Man that's a mess. But at least your house and family are all right which is the main thing.

The earthquake has sure taught all of us outside of ChristChurch to just be prepared. We all know that we are on a fault line but I don't think we understand how serious and destroying they can be. At least your UCS MF is all right cause that you be a pain to out back together from pieces :classic:

I hope your clean up mission outside and inside goes smoothly! :sweet:

Glad to see you've survived the 7.1 earthquake and your family and home are ok. I've been in several smaller earthquakes. Last one I thought I was getting dizzy then I noticed the classroom ceiling projector shaking above my head. I quickly ducked underneath my desk, it was over before I can run to hide under the nearest door frame.

On the plus side: looks like your Death Star is more hardcore and solid than the two from the movies... and I saw the barcodes print-out you naughty boy!

I remember feeling an earthquzke her in toronto a while ago, it wasn't that bad, but then agian it was only like a 3 on the richtor scale. I'm glad to hear that you and your family and your house are okay. And now at least you can satisfy your need to build without spending any money for a while.

Yeah, that grey sandy-silt stuff is rather odd. I didn't personally have any on my property but I was out in the Student group going around cleaning it up. It's a good thing to do seeing as we all have no School or Uni :classic:

Legoman, happy to see you here. Any risk of other quakes (I hope no)?

You said there are other community members living in Christchurch, any news about them?

Depending on who you talk to, There are definately more expected as a result. There are 2 major fault lines that run through the city, So people think that a big quake in one may trigger another. I'll just hope and pray that there's not

And about the others, They're fine on the scale of things I think. You can read more bout experiences over in the NZ topic but Nothing too bad I beleive

As long as you and your family are ok I wouldn't bother too much about your collection. Little plastic bricks can be replaced. Be happy that you are safe and sound.

Yes. But none the less, It's intresting.

Yeah, Some time to rebuild ahead. It's a shame the Death star is such a boring build
