Buying individual parts

Hi,

I've just spent an hour or so trying to locate a number of specific parts.

Some of the parts are to use on sets where they are incomplete, others are for me to put towards my own ideas.

I had a look on bricklink as a first choice, but have often found bricks tend not to be named as expected or a basic search wont find them, yet i'll stumble across them in one of the shops exactly as typed. I have some reference numbers of various bits, but of course bricklink do not have that search function.

I went to the official lego site and started filling up my basket from their reference search, then found that quite a few of the bricks come up as not found. Particularly irritating as they are quite specific bricks and also when the manual i'm looking at is hardly old.

Can anyone else suggest somewhere i might be able to find bricks either referenced or otherwise. I know bricklink tends to be the norm, but aside from the poor searching, when i do find a brick type im after a seller often has only a few or even 1.

They must be available or i would be envious of all these mods i find in the town thread

When doing searches in Bricklink I often locate the 'Inventory' of an existing set known to contain the part (Catalog Inv), and from this can see the exact part numbers I need from BL.

E.g. if I know the part exists in 10016 (e.g. 4x4x8 round panel quater), then I go to the inventory, find the item, and can click on it. Then I can see which other sets it appears in, and especially, which colours are available. Then add the item to a wanted list, or write down the top 5 sellers and later cross reference with other searches.
