wolfwing Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 heh looking at the collection orgnization topics and such make me unsure wether to be jelouse or concerned...I'm leaning more towards Jelouse :> My entire collection to date takes up 5 safeway bags, a box with my large baseplates, and 10% of a totebox which has all of my bricks/beams/arches/slopes and such, the bags have my ship stuff, car stuff, specialized stuff, thinking of sorting another bag/container *when I can get them* for hinges and such. BUt in general...:> I don't have enough to even organize by colour, unless I want a bag with 3 of some of the rarer colours heh. Anyone else feel like this a bit when they get out of their dark ages, a bit daunted and like...it's a long ways to go to get anywhere near as good. Bought some stuff on ebay and bricklink so hopefully when they arrive I will be a bit more set, plan to start building, though I'm still going to be stuck with technocolour builds as not enough to make anything really unique that is all one colour, or all a colour scheme. prateek Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 I now just how you feel. I see everyone's displays and MOCs and storage areas, and alls I have is a 30x20x20 cm bucket to keep everything in. But, instead of being jealous, just take it as inspiration and imagine yourself with the same stuff in a few years. Quote

Aanchir Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I never had a dark age, so don't know what it's like to no longer have an impressive collection. But if you have a hard time with the small size of your collection, a good way to get bulk bricks is from yard sales. You'll encounter people who really don't want or need the bricks they've accumulated, but not nearly as much competition from other AFOLs as you'd find online or at conventions. At least, that used to be the case. In today's world of eBay, Craigslist, and other online means of getting a good value for stuff you don't need, I'm not sure how many people actually sell their stuff in the yard or garage. Still, it helped me accumulate parts in the '90s when I was younger, and after a bit of washing the parts will be perfect to use in MOCs. Another nice thing about yard sales is that you may get ahold of parts that you wouldn't likely get otherwise. Hand-me-down parts from yard sales was one way I got ahold of older printed parts (I didn't start buying sets until I was 5 years old in 1995, but I have to my credit printed parts from many earlier themes like original Blacktron). And always remember that those bulk parts you get online or at yard sales used to be sets, many of which had coherent color schemes. So they'll still be about as useful for MOCing as today's sets. Only difference is that with bulk parts you can't specialize, while with new sets you can always stick to buying from a particular theme or with particular colors in mind. Hope you find what you've been craving when your eBay purchases come in, and hope my suggestions pay off otherwise. Quote
dr_spock Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Don't stress over it. I started with a tiny collection when I came out. But over time you can acquire a lot of bricks whether slowly or quickly depending on your disposable income. You can also use BrickLink to get specific pieces. Quote
wolfwing Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 heh I'm not really stressed ;> Just a bit humbling to see some of the collections, going to hopefully by next week have the first bit of new lego and then will start to see what I can come up with, what are some good places to post new creations, partticularly technocolour amalgamation ones? hewkii9 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 It's not the size of the collection, it's how you use it Bricklink's also good for building up inventories. Quote
