TypoCorrecto Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I am looking to add a set to my collection but I can only add one for now. I am leaning toward investing in the Metroliner but the Freight Rail Runner is catching my eye. Does anyone have an opinion? Quote
BillytheKid Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I say Metroliner, but it's what you want the most. Quote
Cwetqo Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I had both and sold 4564, but I still prefer it over metroliner. Metroliner: +classic lego set, very highly valued +great internal layout (dining, sleepin and storage areas, fake motor...) +lots of minifigs +nice platform -dull coulour (but many people like it anyway) -outdated design (was "modern" in nineties, but not anymore) -no speed regulator (you have to buy it separately) Freight Rail Runner: +timeless design (will always look good) +one wagon more +complete, ready-to-run set -no lights -two axis, shorter wagons -just two minifigs But, as allways, it all a matter of personal preference. Both are excellent trains and best in their own categories (all alter cargo trains were uglier until 4512 which is just a redesign os 4564 and all later passenger trains were also much worse, until this years passenger train, which is in some way also succesor to Metroliner. So, If you can, get BOIH! Quote
jd5775 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I have both and personally like the 4564 better. If you have the money now I would buy the 4564 because the metroliner will be around a lot longer due to the rerelease. I bet there are hundreds of unopened 10001 metroliners now after people saw the 4558 prices inflate in the late 90's. HOWEVER The 10001 metroliner and the 10002 club car combined are probably the best train to buy and should be cheaper than either a 4558 or 4564. Just my opinion Quote
TypoCorrecto Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 Thanks for your opinions...I have some thinking to do. I like the new passenger train to Cwetqo...I hope its still readily available in the next 5 to 6 months. Quote
Brickaroo Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Personally, it's the Metroliner hands down. I comes with 11 minifigs and a lighting kit + it can be coupled with the club car to make a really beautiful passenger train. Moreover if you pick up a train station it certainly looks and feels nicer with a passenger train running through it than a cargo train. I've got plenty of trains from both the 12v and the 9v era and the Metroliner is my favourite of the lot. Quote
Davey Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I would say the Metroliner hands down. It is such an iconic set and will only continue to increase in value. I would personally get that one now and then in a few years if you want the Frieght Rail Runner, you can grab that and it probably wouldn't have gone up in price too much. Just my $0.02. In the end, get whatever makes you happy! -Davey Quote
dr_spock Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Metroliner. It's got red, white and blue. Quote
