wolfwing Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Heh just got back into Lego after a long gap, though been checking out the sets from time to time, got a nephew thats starting into lego so it's rekindled alot of my old interest in lego, even pulled out what was left of my old collection and had survived the moves and such. Looking online has had me want to try to my own hands at massive lego creations or just build those old ideas I used to have. Any tips for a returner to lego? Partly curious about whats the best way to increase a collection, at this point not worrying too much about what specific pieces I get and such, as much as I am interested in getting a base collection that I can create various things from, then worry about what I'm missing or need later. wolfwing Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 welcome and enjoy the boards! A tip; buy, buy, buy! Well I figured, I was thinking of grabbing ebay bulk purchases, and been keeping a eye out in donation stores and garage sales. Quote

Garage sales are known for their treasures now and then. How about lego creator sets? They have to most basic elements in it. Quote

XimenaPaulina Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Welcome to Eurobricks wolfwing! Regarding your question, it will depend on your specific interest. Do you have a particular theme you would like to build on? Or you just want regular lego parts in general? If you want just the parts, then City or creator sets are highly recommended, so are bulk purchases. If you have a specific creation that you would like to do you might want to also try the piece-by-piece purchase in bricklink (highly tedious work, but economical piece-wise). Or you could just do the normal thing and just buy sets off the store shelves and start building your base from there. Quote

I like city stuff and wouldn't mind building a city at some point, but also a big fan of space, and castle stuff, also been looking into the out of production cowboys and indians sets, as I have a few interesting ideas for using them. Wow it seems you have a wide range of interests, well good luck on that. Based on experience, it's hard to collect even in just two themes, that's why for the meantime I'm just concentrating on SW stuff. But I'm pretty sure there are a lot of avenues where you could find good deals for the sets/parts that you want. Quote

Beyond that space will probably be the hardest, but always found it the most interesting with the weirdness in shapes and exotic pieces you can make. Western probably the most expensive for particular set items, like the tepee's and other such things but could still be possible. Castle I think would get a bit tougher. But I have a few ideas, I'm thinking for now just building a lego base, and worrying about removing technocolour creations as I go. For now looking for more learning to create interesting sets and such and then once I have base, start looking for specific colour pieces. Question what does MOC/LPC and other such abreviations mean. It's a good thing you know what you want to do, that's always a good start. Good luck on your lego plans. This site will be able to help you in a lot of ways, especially inspiration, building techniques, technical answers, the works. Just take a look around and ask if you would like to know something. To answer your question, MOC stands for My Own Creation. For other terms, this EB Glossary might be helpful to you. --> linky. Quote
