Tervlon Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Supply shipping in the outer planets is always under threat of attack. With warlords, pirates, and sinister enemies from the surrounding sectors it is essential that a new ship be brought into service. Launching this week, the InterSystem Defense Service is proud to bring the cruiser Prosperity online to protect interstellar trade and project power to the depths of space. Armed with dozens of blasters, flak cannons, laser cannons, and missile launchers the Prosperity will make all enemies flee. I've been getting into Micro Space lately and brought a couple of my creations to BrickFair 2010. My favorite was constructed in July using a cup full of red minifig chairs I picked up at the LEGO PAB. The build was very well received and really stood out with its red hull. What turned out of a feverish build was the cruiser Prosperity. The Prosperity is about 20-25 inches long. To create the long smooth hull curve I placed chairs in SNOT position along side each other. In all 188 chairs were used, 186 Red and 2 Black. Besides dozens of chairs there are dozens of jumper plate to hold the ship together. Please let me know what you think! Masked Builder Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I don't remember seeing this but hey it's still awesome! Quote
Tervlon Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 I don't remember seeing this but hey it's still awesome! Thanks. It was up towards the front almost to the vendor tables. It was placed on a table with a bunch of Micro Space creations like that amazing circular space station. I had it with the Space creations but there wasn't a lot of Micro Space and it felt lonely, so I moved it over with friends. :) Quote
fred67 Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Wow! Very cool... no wonder red chairs are so expensive - what a great use for that part! I love the contrast of red and black... and the array of "thrusters" on the back ads just the right amount of "other" color. It's a very cool ship with a great design. Good job there, Tervlon. I wish I got to go to those conventions... Quote

I wish I got to go to those conventions... Thanks! Chair prices are indeed high but I never knew until after I started building in this style. Luckily I found a box full at the LEGO store. You can fit about 330 in a LG. Pick A Brick Cup if you do it right. The 340 brown ones I have are just waiting for me to use them. I am super lucky, in the DC area we have 4 LEGO stores within an hour in each direction, 2 clubs (WAMALUG & WAMALTC) and BrickFair every year. For a LEGO fan this is the best place in the world, IMO. Legostein Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hello there! What a great ship! The shape is great as you've found a really clever way to get it tiled and sloped at once with those chairs. I also like the transparent pieces for the command towers and crew areas. This always gives a good impression on how big a vessel is. Well done! Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Wow, this has got to be the most clever use of the simple lego chair that I've ever seen. And the great thing about this is you managed to get the desired effect - a very smooth curved body finish usually achieved by the conventional use of curved slopes and tiles. The overall design is great, with the right amount of details and effective black-red color scheme. Impressive work Tervlon! Quote
