i used to love legos as a kid, and now i just found out about ldd. so as you may have all guessed, i have some questions. is ldd a decent program? what do you like and dislike about ldd? i admit, i never really learned how to truly build with legos, (not on a modelers skill level anyway) so im wondering, if there's a place to find free building plans for me to create what normally i could not. is ldd expandable? thanx to lego for creating ldd.

Hi clear

I'm not sure you are accustomed to forum behaviour, but before asking these sort of questions, you should start by looking around the LDD forum, particularly the Index topic. Also, download LDD and try it out and you will find out if it's a good program. Also, some of your questions are very basic. May I suggest for example you do a Google search for "lego instructions" and start from there.

Also, based on how you fail to capitalize the first word in a sentence, I'm suspecting you are not so old. Please remember that Eurobricks is a sight for AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego).

your correct i type horribly. i am 30 years old though.(i know because i see myself in the mirror everyday :) i will look around in the index. that response however doesn't make me feel very welcome here. im not exactly sure i did anything wrong, other then ask what you deem to be a pointless question. but i will read the faq as obviously i didn't. however you should expect basic questions from a new user.

heres the thing though, the reason why i asked about 'building plans' is not because im a moron, but because im not sure which bricks ldd supports. it would sucks if i started a model and then found out i didnt have the needed bricks. would you not agree :p? so how do i know what building plans to look for?

Hi and welcome.

You can introduce yourself in the specific section of the forum! :classic:

About your questions:

is ldd a decent program?

I think it is enough good.

It is not perfect, surely, but I see a continuous effort of the LDD team to improve it.

If you are looking for a complete LEGO cad software for your creations, I think LDD is not the right one.

But if you wish a software to construct for fun, LDD is surely what you need.

what do you like and dislike about ldd?

I like the "easy to use" interface, that allow an experience similar to real construction.

I hate its limitations, for example I can't part composed bricks, I have to use legal connection only, I can't add stickers or missing bricks.

Obviously there are many things that LDD can improve, and I hope to see these improvement in the future.

i admit, i never really learned how to truly build with legos, (not on a modelers skill level anyway) so im wondering, if there's a place to find free building plans for me to create what normally i could not. is ldd expandable?

There are many sites where you can find instructions, for example peeron (picsl), Bricklink, Brickfactory, Brickset, etc... and, obviously, LEGO site.

is ldd expandable?

What do you mean, exactly?

i mean can you make your own lego sets?

Obviously yes, you can do what you want using pieces available and legal connections.

Note that with universe mode you can access a greater number of pieces and colours.

Not only: if you use "Design by Me" mode (but with a limited number of pieces and colors), at the end of you work you can order your creation al lego.com, and it will arrive in a box with the image of your unique set.

It is not exactly cheap, however!

PS: I think you'll should learn to use quote function!

Try to edit you post above and clearly separate the quoted parts written by my from the new text you write as answer.

im finding all these lego plans, but ldd doesn't have the parts. what are the names or lego themes that ldd includes? surely there must be a list of the included set with ldd?

Dear Clear, our forum rules clearly state you have to use proper punctuation and capitalization when posting. Reason being we are targeting an adult audience and we expect adults to have these basic skills and do a little extra effort when writing a post. This is not meant to make you feel unwelcome, but please keep this in mind while posting. Thanks!

LDD don't include sets, but contains various creations as example or as a "base".

Is it common to don't find pieces in LDD (you can see the topic with official sets made in LDD to clearly see that!), but using Universe mode (read the topic I linked in my previous post to see what I mean) helps to solve this issue.

PS: read again my post above, I edited it some minutes ago.

Another not less important reason is that people (like me  ) who has difficulties with English language can find hard to understand a text not correctly written!

I think it may be time for me to look over the forum rules again. There are times when I get a little sloppy from my passion for the subject matter.

Well I'll do my best. I'll certainly pay attention to how I type.

Great. Then let's start over:

Hi clear

A warm welcome to the LDD forum here at Eurobricks. :classic:

Like Calabar mentioned above, LDD is a fantastic software. Play around with it, and make sure you activate LU Mode to get access to all those bricks. And don't hesitate to ask any questions here.
