DLuders Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Here's a sharp-looking car made by Firas Abu-Jaber (a frequent contributor to MOCPages): http://cgi.ebay.com/Lego-Model-Team-Technic-Racer-Creator-Custom-Ford-GT40-/190434734641?pt=UK_Construction_Toys_Kits&hash=item2c56cb7231 . You can buy one of these and build it yourself. He wrote, "This is a one-off highly detailed custom lego model of a Ford GT40. The design has been inspired by Firas Abu- Jaber original GT40. This model uses all new lego parts and is a complicated build. Built in the modelteam / creator lego style. I only have one of these to sell. It is as pictured. The lego will be posted fully constructed as pictured. I will include fully illustrated, detailed step by step build instructions with the model in PDF format. * Unique Custom MOC Model * Custom Chromed Wheels * Built from new lego parts * Posted fully insured worldwide * Instructions included" "822 parts - 290mm long, 130mm wide (16 bricks). The doors, bonnet and rear engine open. The engine is a V8. No moving parts. No steering or suspension. Similar to 1:17 scale Lambos."
TechnicJuan Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 That may be inspired by Firas Abu-Jaber, but in no way looks as good as his model. The guy that is selling this on ebay is notorious for building and selling other people's designs.
Meatman Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Using other people's designs to try and turn a profit is not cool.
skyliner Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) Using other people's designs to try and turn a profit is not cool. this is not exactly firas GT40. It was inspired by firas. The design was built differently from the bottom up. The final outcome is a suitable tribute to firas design. It can be very frustrating for lego fans to see great MOCs and then not be able to build them! Edited September 2, 2010 by skyliner
Blakbird Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Not as good as the original but a very nice model. Too bad the original designer isn't the one doing the sale. If this guy went to all the trouble of making step by step instructions, why is he only selling one copy? Seems suspicious. I wonder if he'll sell just the instructions later. I wouldn't buy the whole model, but I'd be interested in seeing the instructions. If Firas actually made and sold instructions of his original models, I think he would make a fortune.

Plastic Nurak Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) There's already a thread about this F(iras)OC in Other Themes Section: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45607 And, yes, Firas' one (now that I look at it) and Arvo Bros' one are better. For me it is about learning firstly from lego, then from MOC builders. It can be very frustrating for lego fans to see great MOCs and then not be able to build them! If the design is different from the bottom up, then why bother crediting Firas at all? Reminds me of that guy from Brazil who copied crow's Lambo design and change a bunch of stuff and then took the credit saying that he built it completely different. DLuders Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 The original designer of this model (Firas Abu-Jaber) has asked skyliner to cancel his sale of this yellow version. This thread is closed; discussion continues on the other Eurobricks thread http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45607 .
