Hi everybody,

One of the things I don't really like on city cars in Lego are the wheels. Most of the time they are white or medium grey.

Now I have the idea to put chrome wheels from the Lego Racers on the city cars (like the smart car and red sportcar).

Racers wheels look like this:

What do you guys (and girls) think? Will these wheels fit and look nice on city vehicles? Does anybody have done this before/ pics? What Racers sets are the best to get enough wheels?

Looks like the small ones will fit on the Smart car like below:

But in what sets are the bigger ones that per example will fit on the red sportcar, the firetrucks etc.

Racers wheels fit 3177s a treat & although they're bigger diameter they don't look stupid.

Take a look at the white one at the back: Smart Lego cars

Rolls further on these wheels too

Thanks, it looks better in my opinion. But what about the bigger (I guess 11,5 mm) wheels like the trucks, sportscar, busses etc.?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. The larger wheels you showed on the red vehicle in the picture? I use rims with the same diameter but with smaller diameter tyres around them for some of my minifig scale MOCs. I don't use the chrome ones because IMO they don't look like truck rims.

Here's an example:

I don't normally use the larger diameter tyres on minifig scale vehicles. IMO they're too big for anything other than, say, a mobile crane or dump truck.

The wheels used by LEGO for many of their vehicles work well IMO for vans and light trucks. However, you can use the small racers/ Tiny Turbo rims with slightly larger diameter tyres as well and they look fine. You can see the difference in tyre size by comparing the front and rear tyres on my hot rod.

I don't know which racers set is the best to get. I have bought a fair few tiny turbos over the years when I could get them cheaply. However, bricklink is your friend. Apparently cross-town craze and bullet run were good ones for wheels, and entirely by coincidence those are two of the Tiny Turbo sets I happen to have.

Cheers,

You bet they work with town, here are just a couple of cars I have with them:

I use them a lot when I build tuners and modded cars, I also like 4 wides the best, so I bring in both new and old school techniques when building.

I probably have bought close to a hundred or so various racer sets and tiny turbos for wheels and parts for normal cars.

You can do this with the racer rims and the bigger tyres. The secret is that there are two rims inside each tyre.

OK, great! I'm gonna try this.

Nice hotrod!

I made a topic a while back about what I think is one of the best-looking solutions for the large City wheels, and it includes Racers wheels. You can find it here: Link

thanks!
