Hello there!

This is my first post in the forum ever, although I've been following it for a long time now. I collect town sets from the classic town series (85 to 95 more or less) but now it's time to start creating my own 4-wide vehicles and small houses, i.e.

or

My question is what is the best way (as in cheapest and fastest) to obtain lots of pieces that can be used in this kind of MOCs?

I can get specific parts in Bricklink (car doors and baseplates, etc) but I wonder if you guys have particular strategies when it comes to build up your stock of pieces (I've seen comments on ratios of piece/value somewhere in the forum)

Also, any specific recommendations on sets to buy that are good to get this kind of pieces, like buckets of pieces or something?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I never buy a ton of pieces from bricklink or Lego becuase it can cost you alot of money. You will also need to buy from several sellers and the time of delivery can be slow. If I were you I will buy some city sets such as the city corner. It is cheaper and faster for you to get alot of pieces. I built all my mocs by using pieces from multiple sets I bought in the past.

Those examples are simple enough;

If you want to avoid Bricklink, you might wanna look at CREATOR sets. For example, the 6754 Family home has a metric crapton of much need tan bricks for most MOC buildings, fair amount of windows, another crapton of 1x1 grey tiles and red roof pieces, plus a big baseplate to boot. Almost 1000 pieces for $60. Along with Bricklink and scoring jackpot on LEGO store pick-a-brick walls, I look at CREATOR sets to get some pieces.

One thing that is good about buying sets is that you don't have to spend alot of time in thinking and choosing what pieces you are going to buy. And I think it is challenging and exciting to build something out of an existing set. That's what I exactly did when I started to expand my street. I bought 2 sets of each creator houses and I got most of the pieces I needed. I agree that #6754 Family Home is the best one for moc too. It's relatively cheap with lots of useful pieces. I also bought 2 sets of eac modular houses so I have even more pieces to choose from. The only down side is that you cannot build cars from those creator houses sets. So you have to buy city/racer/creator car sets.

Cool, then I can pick the Creator sets also based on the predominant color scheme and get lots of pieces of that color.

I guess I'll still have to go to BL for specific bricks (doors and car baseplates, windscreens, etc)

PS: I'm puzzled with my profile picture. I didn't uploaded this picture at all lol! I may have used years ago in a different forum but I don't know how it got here. The Internets keep amazing me.
