Algernon Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I've always been fond of underwater themes, and I know I'm not alone. Underwater themes have brought us a lot of great sets over the years and LEGO keeps revisiting the sci-fi setting. The latest entry, Atlantis, is already slated for another wave in 2011- giving it more longevity than even Space Police III! So which is your favorite? Personally I think they all have their strong points, but Stingrays would probably have to take the cake for me (mostly because of the largest vehicle, which is one of my all-time favorite sets). You can select multiple options. Discuss! :) Quote
prateek Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 2007 Aqua Raiders for me. I love the animals included, and the vehicles were pretty cool too. Quote
Ignited_Impulse Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 (edited) I personally like the city Divers theme the best. I am pretty bummed though because AquaRaiders looked awesome but that was during my ten years spent not paying attention to lego. Edited August 22, 2010 by Ignited_Impulse Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Aquanauts. Crystal Explorer is a KILLER set. Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) The latest entry, Atlantis, is already slated for another wave in 2011- giving it more longevity than even Space Police III! How is that so? SP3 had at least 2 years and Atlantis will have 2 years. However I voted for Aquanauts and Aquasharks because they are part of the same theme to me, Aquazone 1995. Aqua Raiders 2007 is my second favorite. (I'm glad you spelled them correctly.) Divers is my third, just because they had like 20 sets in 1997, I got to buy about 2 of them, but they were all the same. Edited August 23, 2010 by The Green Brick Giant Quote
robuko Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Had to change my vote on this. Best underwater set - 6195 Neptune Discovery Lab. But, I voted Atlantis for the minifigs, which seem like a very cool extension of Stingrays Robuko Quote
jonwil Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Voted Aquanauts/Aquasharks since I love those themes and am only missing 2 yellow propeller housings and 1 yellow 1 x 1 tile with red and black buttons pattern in order to be Aquazone complete (and have every part from every set). I have plans for some kind of super-alternate-model (or models) using just the parts from these Aquazone sets and nothing else. Quote
Plissken Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Voted for Aqua Raiders (2007) The ships are fantastic in my opinion. Very good designs. On the animal front I think the Tigershark is one of the best brickbuild creatures Lego ever released. Great Theme and sets. Quote
Scorpion Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Aquanauts and Aquasharks. Not only were they the first, but they had that 80's sci-fi movie (The Abyss, I'm looking at you!) thing going that I love! Plus, nothing beats the Aquasharks' flagship (flagsub?) set. I still have it in my bedroom. I've assembled it in 1997 and I never took it apart. Quote
Rijkvv Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Divers, the 1997 Town sub-theme certainly is the most realistic theme, and one of my all-time favourites. But since this is in the Action themes forum, I choose both classic Aquazone themes: Aquanauts and Aquasharks. Well-designed, they look like Space sets from the same era. In fact, I always thought it was a Space subtheme. Quote
CP5670 Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 My favorite is Aquasharks. I love the sleek, shark-like appearance used across the theme as well as the color scheme. It's a pity the theme was so small though. They only had four sets and only two were larger than impulse size. Aquanauts was a more comprehensive theme and had some great sets too. All of those 90s Aquazone themes had at least one exceptionally good set, now that I think of it. Quote
BrickPerfection Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I voted Aquasharks because they add a nice vintage feelingto me and remember me a bit of my own childhood I do realise however it probably isn't the most elabourate underwater theme; probably Atlantis is. Quote
RocketClone Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Divers, 2007 aqua raiders, and atlantis. (this theme has a lot of potential) Quote
Vindicare Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I voted Atlantis cause I like minifies, especially the Salvage Crew. Quote
bort138 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I voted for aquanauts. There's something about the yellow/black color scheme with trans blue that I love. Crystal Explorer Sub is probably my favorite set from my childhood. Quote
Swiss Army Droid Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Very close between Alpha Team and Atlantis, but I went with Atlantis. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I went with Atlantis. I LOVED the old generation sea sets, but the Atlantis series looks far better in terms of underwater craft. Also, it introduced creature figs, which are VERY much awesome IMO. Quote
Batbrick Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Aquaraiders HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No seriously, Aquaraiders was one of the first themes I bought when I got back into Lego, and it is the only theme I bought every set of and completed. It's all destroyed now for Batman mocs, but I have a great bias and nostalgia for that theme even if it had quite a few flaws and suffered a lot of "Sameyness". Batbrick Away! Quote
Dwarfinator Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) I had to vote for Atlantis, for both the figs and that I have been obsessed with the idea since I was little. Edited September 10, 2010 by Dwarfinator Quote
Norro Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 You should probably combine aquanauts/aquasharks as they were release together (or split atlantis into divers and mutants). But it has to be the aquanauts for me. The only sets that could ever have pulled me away from castle! God Bless, Nathan Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I can't decide really, I grew up with Divers which was one of the best sub-themes at the time in my opinion, I quite like Aquaraiders (the original) and the second theme of that name, but mostly due to the realistic sets like 7776 (also reminds me of 6560) and finally Atlantis which has the best minifigs in my opinion and alot of the model have really grown on me and I love the underwater buildings. So inconclusion I don't know! Quote
