Scop Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 As a child and teenager I was crazy about Medieval Lego. However, with the beginning of "Knights Kingdom" in 2000 I lost my interest and someday i had totally forgot my once so beloved hobby. Only the Royal Knight's Castle 6090 always found its place in my apartement. Then in 2007 - in the meanwhile I had become part of the so-called Gothic-Scene - I walked trough a supermarket when I noticed the Skeletons´Prison Carriage, thinking: "Wow, living Lego-Skeletons and undead horses, how cool is that?" Some months later I owned an army of Skeletons and began to buy the human-related sets too. Since then I´m back. And it feels so good. Even though my wallet is crying sometimes and it´s always a tough decision wheter to buy Lego or new Cds / Festival-Tickets / special clothes. Quote
rakky Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I have only just come out of my dark age now after a gap of 16 years or so, It was the minifigures that did it for me, at first i though I would'nt buy one but then me and my mate got one on a whim, i wanted the ninja and got it on the first try and since then i have been buying lots more. I tried finding my chest full of old late 80's/early 90's lego earlier but god knows where it is in my parents garage loft. Luckily my girlfriend finds it cute that I like lego so i can see myself amassing quite a collection :) Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 (edited) 7128 Speeder Bikes -- that was the set that put the whole ball back in motion for me. I'd been out of Lego for a long time, only toying a bit with Aquazone and Pirates in the 90s. Then, walking one day through a drug store, I saw this set and just had to have it. There was just something about the Biker Scout minifigs that demanded my patronage. I didn't even know they started a license with Star Wars. But I was positively hooked, connecting in a way with Star Wars that I hadn't felt since I was 7 years old. I quickly backtracked to snatch up every set in the line, and have remained faithful to pretty much every OT set for the past 10 years. Sometime last year, I began to grow weary of LSW, most likely because of the exorbitant prices. I harmlessly grew addicted to the new Pirates line, and spent most of my summer putting together a proper Redcoat army. And then the license was axed, and almost washed my hands of the whole hobby... Then, I one day picked up the red Sports Car, and suddenly CITY had saved the day!! I can't believe I'd never noticed how great the old faithful line had become over the past 5 years. I'm now a primary City enthusiast, and look forward to building onto all of the wonderfully designed city sets I've been able to get a hold of. Edited August 22, 2010 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
Lego_Hero Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I left Lego in my late teens in the 80's. It wasn't until the Star Wars sets came out that I started buying again. Once the early releases died down, I started looking for other lines. A few years ago, I decided to re-invent my old superhero team and it's been a wild ride since! Now I buy most of the small sets produced from any line in addition to any minifig-heavy sets. I'm still in the dark ages in a sense. Nobody but my wife and two year old know that I play with these little plastic building blocks. Quote
drdavewatford Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 The Death Star (10188) brought me back into the fold - my wife bought it for me as a present. And same as Grogall, the Santa Fe loco got me back into Lego trains last year when I bought one on eBay. Quote
Arfman Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I own the pneumatic crane and the 80's Supercar (the model before the 8880). Teared them apart when I was something like 13 and packed away. 2 years ago, a friend of mine started collecting LEGO after his dark ages (starting with the 8421), he let me play with them and I helped to build some models. Fast forward 2 years, I now have 12+ Technic models from 2005 and upwards (also starting with the 8421) and they take up so much space I have to settle to just buy the absolute topmodel from each year, any more and our house will be too small. Gotta love Lego. Quote
