Thrash Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I knew I would be bored over spring break, so Friday night I just started building. I ended up with this Magic Shop. I'm still working on the interior, but here is the exterior: I'm not sure if the image is too big (I'm not really sure how to resize images on here, but I'd be happy to resize it if someone tells me how), so here is the link: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/thrash/M...ore/frontal.jpg Let me know what you think. Kikuichimonji Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 That's really nice! I just love the 'head' you built in. But please do resize it, I can't see the entire picture, making it harder to judge. For Apo's resizing tutorial, go here. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Like Kikuichumoji said, the pictures are way too big the really see it well. But from what I can see, I really like the front of the building; the part that looks like a face. The way the walls are turned sideways is a neat touch. Quote
xenologer Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Really Nice I'd like to know how you did the sides of the mouth, with the angled walls. New triangle technique? Quote
Thrash Posted April 17, 2006 Author Posted April 17, 2006 Thanks for the compliments guys, and the resizing tutorial. As you can see, I fixed the size of that first picture. Here is a picture of the angled wall with the two key components circled: As you can see, I used a hinge piece at the ends of mouth, and then built over to the main wall. At the main wall, I alternated putting the angled part and the main wall on top. Also, I had to leave alternating open spaces right next to where the two walls. If that little explination didn't make much sense, I'd be happy to take some pictures and do a tutorial on how to make angled walls like I did. Just let me know. Quote
optimus-convoy Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Nice work on the "head" it has an intresting shape. Quote
xenologer Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 What impresses me is how the managed to make the wall hold by a hinge on one end, and studs on the other; and still line up just right. Hinges are at the corners of bricks, and the studs are down the middle. So its a lot harder to calculate magic 3/4/5stud triangle ratios. Is it even a 3/4/5 triangle? or did you discover some other lengths that work out? Quote
Thrash Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 It is not a 3x4x5 triangle. I think I was able to use different lengths since I used a hinge on one side instead of having them come together on a stud. I've been working on the interior, and I've finished the storage room. I still intend to work on the main room behind the "face" and a second floor above the storage room. Here are some pictures of the storage room. Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions for what else to put in the storage room. Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Great use of the timecruiser dish. The room itself is a little bare though. It needs something else in te middle of it besides the table. You placed everything near the walls, which isn't bad, but just leaves the room with a rather empty atmosphere. Nonethelesse, great MOC! Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Thrash This is a great moc IMO that changes a lot from what we see usually ;-) First, I love the "Head entry" of the building !! What did you base it on, I'm curios !! Is it on a monkey, specific Gargoyle ?? Really a nice buildind technics for the angles line of the head !! You have some great details in the inside of the building such as the wooden library and potion heater & whirlpool. There are however 2 areas that I am not found of. First the right wall of the building (looking at it on the front) because of the mixing of colours: black, dark grey; dark bluish grey, light grey and light bluish grey ;-) Its a little too much. Also the Interior is a little plain ;-) You should work a bit on floor decoration and furniture !! Anyhow a great Moc !! Keep it up !! *yoda* Quote
Norro Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 What a nice MOC! The uniqueness of such a large sculpture is a really brilliant concept but in this MOC it is also really well implimented. I also like the 'well' in the interior, it adds a nice mysterious dimension to the shop... Thanks for sharing and God Bless, Nathan Quote
