rday1982 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Hey there. I'm 28, live in Yorkshire, and have a ton of LEGO from when I was a kid. Recently I rediscovered my old 9V train stuff, and *POW* something snapped in my brain. I'm currently trying to build a decent looking steam train (the dog has already smashed one attempt) and looking for tips. I'm also feverishly buying up spare parts on bricklink and eBay (well, I was until I ran out of disposable income). I've discovered LDD, and am also trying to model a decent steam loco to order in a few months time (Xmas present to myself, maybe). I've also discovered that whenever I have my LEGO trains running, the cat will come in, stare at them, and will attack them as soon as he thinks I'm not paying any attention to him. Between the cat, the dog, lack of funds, and a girlfriend who thinks I'm being a massive idiot, playing with "kids toys", I'm finding LEGO to be a frustrating hobby to re-embrace... but it's worth it when I complete something. :D I have to be honest, when I was younger I never really appreciated the possibilities of LEGO trains. Now though, they've well and truly opened up before me. Assuming I don't lose interest in this or become annoyed enough to sell it all on eBay, I might be here for a while. :D Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Welcome to Eurobricks rday1982! We hope too that the train lines would remain interesting like now. Hope you enjoy your stay here. Quote

Captain Green Hair Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Welcome to Eurobricks! 28 is a great age to reinvent the wonders of Lego trains. Quote
RoryoCox Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Welcome to Eurobricks. Enjoy the site and it is good to see some more UK members. Quote
Blackicep8ntball Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 It's crazy, but the women never do seem to understand our obsession with these toys . Glad you rediscovered your Lego collection, and hopefully you won't have too many pet incidents ... that is funny about your cat though. I've lost a couple pieces to the dogs myself. Anyway, enjoy the forum rday1982, and hopefully I'll see you around! Quote
fred67 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Welcome, rday! While we may disagree with SavaTheAggie about 9V versus PF trains, he sells some amazing instruction sets that you should check out: http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=AggieSava Also look for RailBricks, which offers some instructions online... even if you don't use Sava's plans, or RailBricks, you can get some great ideas from them and elsewhere on the web. As far as women go... I think my wife gets annoyed, but she also realizes there are a lot worse hobbies I could have. Quote
WhiteFang Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Welcome! We got a new Train Lover in town. I am very sure you won't lose interest in this hobby as long you have the love for such building experience. I am glad you had came out of your dark age. Quote

I actually found Eurobricks after following SavaTheAggie's trail of train designs around the web. I even contacted him about the possibility of some custom instructions... I get the impression he's some sort of LEGO God. Railbricks already downloaded as well. Quote
dr_spock Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Welcome aboard. There were some good Lego train sets back in 1982. Quote
