Still Raindrop Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Hello, everyone! I've posted a picture or two of my beach scene/fish and chips stand before, but I've changed some things around and, rather than post in the general Rossville topic, I thought I'd give it a topic of its own. Apologies for the mediocre pictures; I still haven't downloaded Photoshop to my new computer, so I can't mess with the contrast or the light levels. Edited August 14, 2011 by Mariko Quote
-zenn Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 The fish logo is awesome! I don't like the studdy beach though. Nice job on the water btw. Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Not bad at all 'Mariko' ! I like the sea with the small waves break on the driver - very realistic ! The fish'n'chip stand is very nice though missing it's chip fryer and bench to tip the fish'n'chips on to. The seagull is simple yet AWESOME ! I'm a conformist! 'Mariko' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Hey75 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 That was cool. I like the fish n chip store clean n simple and not to forget the diver coming out of the water. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I'm quite impressed with your MOC Mariko, I think the small details (fish signage, duck, water details) and the action shots (boy making the sand castle, crab-bit man, the diver, beach treasure-hunter) make this a very good vignette. Good job! Quote
Deadraque Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Love the fish too :) and love the crab on the foot!!! Nice and simple! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Thanks, guys! I'm glad you like it! -zenn, is it just the studs you don't like? Because in my LEGO town, smoother surfaces (wood, pavement, etc.) are generally tiled, and rougher, more natural surfaces (like grass or sand) are generally tiled. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 I just re-built the entire beach. It still has studs, but it's less flat, and I think it looks more realistic. I'll post pictures soon (school, work, and married life are keeping me busy right now). Quote
rakky Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I thought it looked really good, loved the fish sign and the amount of mini figs doing cool stuff and also got the feeling that you really enjoyed making the scene. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 Thanks, rakky! I did enjoy making it, but I thought I'd challenge myself and make a better landscape, which turned out to be just as enjoyable an effort as before--perhaps even more so. Here are some pictures of the new beach: Quote
Matthammer Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Nice build. Really like the water effect. Like the painting too :) Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Nice little improvements there 'Mariko' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 Thanks for the comments! Yeah, my wife's painting just seemed to go well with the scene, so I photographed it that way. Usually it's on the wall. Hmm... perhaps I should get her to paint other background scenes for our town Quote
Still Raindrop Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 So, I have a question, and would really like to know what you guys think. I'm about to majorly change my town (taking down the town hall and putting in a grocery store, and maybe a barbershop), and I was wondering about the beach. Do you think it would look better if I left it as is, or if I took down the fish & chips stand and incorporated it into my town proper, leaving a smaller pier behind? Quote
Still Raindrop Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 Any opinions? I'd really like to hear what people think. Please? I'd really like some feedback (and I feel like I kill all my topics) Quote
oo7 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I feel that the stand gives the beach a lot of character (I really like the blue with the white pillars). If you do move it away from the beach, it would be nice I think to incorporate it into a boardwalk that extends to the water. The landscaping looks good now as well - if any aspect were to look better with tiles, it would be the roof. Quote
Admiral Ron Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I love this scene! The water is great, and I love the technique you used to make the boy building a sandcastle, i might use it one of these days. Great work! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Thanks, guys. I think I probably will leave the stand on the beach (though with a few modifications, like the tiled roof). Quote
