prateek Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 What's bad about it though, because I can't really see anything wrong with that other than there's no paint in some points. Me neither. Maybe it's something wrong with us Canadians Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted August 11, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted August 11, 2010 This is my favorite fig in the series 2 box. I'll for sure get around 10 of these. Thanks for this comprehensive overview of the fig Kim! Quote
Baylego Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Thanks for the review KimT! I hope to get 6 to 10 of these when they are out in the US. About the leg printing, i will try to find a nice quality dark red marker that matches the Lego shade of the color very closely and touch him up. Quote
Rijkvv Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Me neither. Maybe it's something wrong with us Canadians He means the hips if I'm right. And indeed, to me they look a little transparent. For 9 of the 10 toy brands, it would be enough. This is Sparta LEGO, and I expect quality. The design is superb, great if you plan to build a minifig-scale trireme, but it lacks quality. The only point of the design that could be better is the helmet. It's not bad, but the Brickforge one looks better to me. Quote
RocketClone Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Ah the hunt has began! Thanks for the pics! Quote
Tanotrooper Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I finally got to lay my hand on these Greek hoplites, and the quality is somewhat lacking: -The tip of and sometimes the complete spear are sometimes bent. -The metallic gold on the helmet doesn't seem to be that thick, and sometimes the layer is so thin it almost looks like tan. -The hands seem to be a bit tighter than minifigures from sets? -The leg printing is quite poorly done. The print only reaches to a certain part of the legs, causing yellow 'flesh' to be seen when moving the legs. Both the tunic (well, its Greek variant) and the sandals are printed on the front and the sides. The problem is that the front and side prints don't touch. There's this thin yellow line running around the corners of the legs... Well other than that this is a great figure. I'll review him aswell alongside his series 2 comrades later this month. Plissken Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Great Review. Picked up six random packs yesterday. I was lucky and got the Hoplite. It's a cool figure. I like his face and the helmet is fantastic. I try to hunt down some more (next time with the barcodes). Quote
Cutty Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) I got six of them today and find nothing on them I could even remotely complain about. The leg-/hip-print being off was far more serious with series 1's caveman figure and, at least to my eye, is also more prevalent on the surfer-dude's shorts. The only let down is this mode of printing not allowing for distinctive action poses. If the printing would at least cover the legs' upper part the figure would increase in appeal like a 1000%! This is valid for all figures with extensive leg print, though. Edited August 20, 2010 by Cutty Quote
Paladin Hicks Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) Thank you Kim T for that wonderful review. I am planning on getting a couple of these bad boys in the future. Thats quite unfortunate about the legs. Lego really needs to adress this quality issue. Although regardless I'm still getting these guys. Does anyone happen to know when these will be out in the States? "Stay Frosty" Edited August 23, 2010 by Paladin Hicks Quote
nausicaakro Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 thanks a lot for your review yeah this minifig rule. I wish to find in italy 10 of them... it is very difficult find here the minifigs box nausi Quote
fred67 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Here you go :) 3 Spartans 3 Pharaohs 3 Adventurers 3 skiers 3 Surfers 3 Disco Stus 3 Singers 4 Mimes 4 Mexicans 4 'Baywatch' babes 4 Vampires 4 Weightlifters 4 Witches 5 Martials arts men 5 Ringmasters 5 Traffic cops Well... that was your box, I'm guessing. Are they all like that? I hope to be getting a box (I already ordered one, but they won't ship until the official release day in September); the only reason I ordered a whole box is because I was unable to get even ONE SINGLE SERIES 1 in the stores (or new online... I eventually bought a set on Ebay and am not happy about it). But I hope to sell two complete sets, and keep one and the extras... assuming I display a complete set, that just leaves extras to use in MOCs... so, not wanting to jump the gun, one of anything else is great... but if I'm going to have two of any minifigs to play with, Ringmasters and traffic cops are not on the top of my list. Vampires and Witches would be awesome... great for a Halloween MOC. Quote

Cant remember if series 1 was uniform or whether there was variation in the boxes. What went wrong with your ebay purchase? Quote
legogirl19 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Still, I'd say the new shield is way better than this one: What Lego Set was this originally found in? I don't think I've seen it before! Quote
Etzel Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Nice catch, KimT! I'm late to the race and haven't got my hands on any hoplites yet, but I will soon I hope. Maybe I need to get to a town not so dense populated with AFOLs to have a better chance nah i didnt get a box, just posting what someone reported. Cant remember if series 1 was uniform or whether there was variation in the boxes. As far as I know all the boxes had the same content and it's the same with this series too. What Lego Set was this originally found in? I don't think I've seen it before! Old Space sets from the 80's and in dark grey in some Castle sets from the same period. I'm actually quite fond of that shield, it reassembles some nice bronze age shields very nice with it's concentric circles. Quote
Captain Becker Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) THIS.. IS.. SPARTAAA!!! I just got one of these spartans Now when i know wich bag it is (Looked the code) im gonna buy these guys even more and more and more. I also noticed at that cape of spartans fits very well on my sig fig, and the face is perfect for my tiny army. Now.... i dont know how i can manage out series 3 and 4, i have spend over 80 euros i guess to get that one spartan BUT, im waiting for pics at series 3 and 4 and look IF they are worth to spend even more money to these guys. Captain Becker EDIT: I dont like the shield ver much couse its kinda tiny, but it fits perfectly on this minifig, and these bags are sold in 1,95 euros each.. so pretty cheap, i usually buy ten of those witch.. wich makes 19.50 euros in total. i am not sure but i try to count all the figs what i have buyed and see how much i have spend really.. i afraid at it goes over 100 euros Edited August 30, 2010 by Captain Becker Quote
