karl1 Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 if you want lego to make a g i joe theme and you agree to buy every single set , twice , lets let them know here! starwars has been done, lets move on ! I think g i joe would be huge, maby even outselling current starwars models. who is with me ? Quote
karl1 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 I have also started a group here to see interest and foward it to lego if there is enough. http://www.flickr.com/groups/1454662@N24/ Quote
Marckeyh Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I doubt that Star Wars ever will be finished. I quite like the idea of GI Joe lego. Imagine all the cool minifigs! On the other hand, don't you think it could be quite limited, I can't remember much of it to be honest, but I don't think they had many vehicles, locations etc. GI Joe on youtube :) Quote

Peppermint_M Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Lego still says it has an "No War Toys" policy. Yes, it has been stretched by the Army Men and Star Wars but a straight up GI theme? Don't think it will happen any time soon. Action Figures is where GI Joe was created and possibly where it will stay. Anyway, Hasbro had its own brick building toy Built to Rule, I don't think they'd want Lego to have access to their properties. GI Joe building toys. Quote
karl1 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 no war toy? have you seen the cannons they make ? the castle knights ? the new spartan ? they must mean no modern war toys, because they definately make war toys about wars in our history. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Correct. Company founder was against it, this is why green bricks weren't around in the first place. "The one continuity not really touched on by Lego is that of military toys (despite there being over 30 types of Lego weapons). While there are sets which can be seen to have a military theme, such as Star Wars or the German and Russian soldiers in the Indiana Jones sets, there are no directly military-themed sets in any line. This is following Ole Kirk Christiansen's policy of not wanting to make war seem like child's play." I suppose when you live through two world wars you don't really want to see children treat is as a fun game. Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Everyone seems to have valid points......yes, Lego don't like making war sets except SW or IJ.....yet again there is Agents, World Racers, all the Castle/Kingdoms and oh yes Wild West. But again with Agents and WR it's a fun theme - a bit cartoonish. Then knights and cowboys - old school games in the backyard, that children have been playing for a hundred years or more. I don't see GI Joe entering the Lego sphere anytime real soon as their was a movie last year and I'm not sure how popular it was as compere to Transformers and naturally anytime Star Wars related. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
DLuders Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 The closest that TLG may get to producing a "G.I. Joe" set is the current http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=7595&LangId=2057&ShipTo=US (which is part of the Disney "Toy Story" theme): Quote
karl1 Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 i now see it wont happen, thanks guys . now can someone tell me how to close the flickr group i created ? Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 You don't have to close the group, you could just change it into a group for GI Joe MOCs and minifig customs. That is the bast way to create a theme Lego won't do or "ended too soon". You might still get plenty of interest in it, seeing how popular GI Joe is to what is a major age group of the US AFOLs.
