Ceroknight Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Wow that guy is really lucky, anyhow I think this is one of those sets that will look horrible without the stickers but you will never know.. I'm happy you only put the head, they probably needed to make the ship fatter if they wanted the whole thing in... The pilot is fantastic, love the silver printings on the head and on the astromech. Plus no flick fire missiles!! I'm consider getting this Quote

I think the head has quite a few uses, the helmet could customized for an arc pilot, (Giving those who got the latest arc 3 regular pilots) the astromech is pretty sweet, and last but not least who DOESN'T want more simple bricks? The more variety you have in your collection the more things you can build! In my mind, bad Lego sets don't exist. Quote

Fallenangel Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Well, it looks like I was right and the ship doesn't fit the whole astromech. I hope everyone realizes by now that this is more movie-accuate... The wings are connected via an axle running through the center of the ship. There is a gear on the right side that you turn to make the right wing (and thus the left) pivot. There's also an L-shaped Technic piece that acts as a stopper, as Walter Kovacs pointed out. Not bad. I'm just hoping it'll work well. On the other hand, did anyone notice that the boosters are built in exactly the same way as they were on the previous rendition? Bad show LEGO bad show... They've also taken a step back by having the triangles on the inner panels represented with a sticker rather than with wing plates, as on the previous rendition. As I predicted the inner panels are in fact shorter by two studs. Not only that, but the shape has been compromised in the process - they are now the more standard trapezoids rather than the isosceles trapezoids they are supposed to be. (Okay, of course they are not exactly isosceles trapezoids, but I'm saying they should resemble that shape more closely.) Contrary to what people thought, it doesn't look like there's anything that keeps the angle of the 3x6 wings on the bar clips fixed - but instead of complaining, just remember that you can always do this. Okay, so it looks like they've sacrificed the better shape they got with the 45 slope bricks in trying to attach the inner panels to the main body of the ship rather than to large Technic bricks on either side. However, the connection is still in the wrong place (the connection is with the face of the panels, not the edges) so it's a one-step-forward-two-steps-back sort of thing... That canopy is ridiculously oversized. I mean, it dwarfs the pilot completely! Just look at how cramped that pilot is supposed to be. The pilot has no controls, not even the little grille piece we got with the previous rendition. Stubby guns = awkward look. I wonder what the significance of that transparent 2x2 round brick is... What's with that completed view at 1:12? I have a growing feeling that people actually buy these sets without knowing anything about the actual ship. Yes, this video confirms it - I will definitely pass over 7915 next year. Quote
Ritz Brick Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 >snip< With all that, I'm surprised no one has complained about having 3 imperial stickers on 2x2 round when theres already a perfectly good printed imperial logo on a 2x2. Quote

Ritz Brick Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) I think we've gotten used to these ever since the Clone Walker Battle Pack I guess so, but I don't see anything wrong with this one. EDIT: Nevermind, I just realized that it would be in old gray. Stickers it is then. Edited December 8, 2010 by Ritz Brick Quote

Stickers it is then. That printed piece was used in the 6206 TIE Interceptor so LEGO has them in bley too. I just figured after the 7676 Republic Gunship that LEGO switched to stickers to cut costs because they realized all their new molds were driving up prices. Quote
Supersonic Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 The wing rotating mechanism is asymmetric, can't say I like that. And you can't fit the whole astromech into the fighter - that really sucks, one of the few parts I was really excited about. The new canopy is extremely nice, although the V-Wing is the wrong vehicle to introduce it. But at least it can be opened without taking it off, that sucked on the old V-Wing. Altogether I don't believe I want this set anymore. Too many things wrong with it and the design isn't much better than the 2005 version. Quote
Bricks2000 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 It's neat that they put some playability into that set. And your right,Mute IS your friend. Quote
mavriel Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I read on Bricklink that starting Jan 1 all LEGO magnet sets will be glued. The figures pieces will be glued, and they will be glued to the brick. This is great news for me, a re-seller. Not so great for the rest of you. Has anyone else heard the same thing? Quote

General Magma Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) And here is a more useful review of the V-Wing set, by the same guy who made that stop-motion build. It shows how the cog mechanism for the wings work, and also shows close-ups of the figures, and some more things. This time, you'll need to view it on YouTube again... ~ General Magma Edited December 8, 2010 by General Magma Quote

commanderneyo Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Here is a review on Brickset also http://www.brickset.com/reviews/?set=7915-1 Also. The Imperial V-wing Starfighter set (7915) is a LEGO Star Wars set which came out in 2011. It comes with 2 minifigures. This set also does include decals. Minifigure: Imperial Pilot: First of I thought the imperial pilot would look the same as I've seen in some reviews of the TIE Defender set. The pilot has the new helmet design from the 2010 TIE Defender with some new markings. The torso is new and he has some markings on his back of his torso. He also comes with a face which you'll see in my videos which I'm positng with this review. R2-Q2: When I saw R2-Q2 for the first time I thought this R2 unit would be chrome but I was wrong. The whole R2 unit comes in a dark grey color and with some cool markings. I wish LEGO could have give us a chrome R2-Q2 which would have made this set into a collector's item. Imperial V-wing Starfighter: Before I begin I have to say that I haven't noticed this version of the V-wing in any Star Wars movies. The V-wing has a very cool design. One problem is that the pilot doesn't have any controls in the cockpit. A cool thing about this set is how you can move the wings of the starfighter. You have to move a big gear which makes both wings moving. But once you turned the wings up just like you can see on the box the model can't stay very well and the wings fold down. Another problem is that you have to take off the head of the R2 unit if you want to get him behind the cockpit. A big plus is that this set includes 2 new elements which I haven't seen before. Positive: New Minifigures Pilot has a face Play features New elements Nice army builder Great pieces which you can youse for brickfilms or MOCs. Negative: It's a little bit overpriced Stickers You have to take off the head of the R2 unit if you want to get him behind the cockpit The starfighter can't stay very well if the wings are in attack mode. LEGO should have given us a little stand to put it on No controls for the pilot No chrome R2 unit after all All in all it's a great set to get and I would highly recommend you to get this model. You can find this set on LEGO Shop@Home, Toys-R-US, eBay, BrickLink and Amazon for sure. I'm very surprised to find this one in Germany in 2010 instead of 2011... When I got my galery uploaded you may check out my own website to see the pictures of this model. At the moment I can't show you the full galery because my server is too small and I'm trying to get a bigger one. Here is the link where you can check out this galery: http://www.klokriecher.de/linkit_en/lego_collection_star_wars_en.php Videos I made of this set: Stopmotion: http://www.youtube.com/user/KLOKRIECHER?feature=mhum#p/a/u/0/aYEa9c-sBd0 Quote

Churchill Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 No controls is a little thing, but it bothers me anyway that there aren't any. You'd think they could put in one piece. It really is ridiculous that you have to take the R2 head off. I get mixed feelings every time I learn more about this set, but hey, I'm a sucker, I'll be getting it. Quote

It needs to be there- to remove is just strange. Quote

Corvus Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 So it won't be awkward having a headless Astromech? How nice that would be. Due to the scale, however, it's impossible to have an astromech fit without it being too blocky. It's still an improvement over the last model- at least we have a body to put it on. Quote
Geki Brick Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 The droid carrier in Battle of Naboo did not appear in the actual fight in the movie. It's not an accurate representation at all so thumbs down for what could have been a decent set. The sets needs more accuracy and more power on the Gungan side. This was a big disappointment. Quote
