Kalapixie Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) So, I was thinking of creating an RC NXT MOC. Right now I have an NXT 2.0, as well as the older yellow brick Mindstorms. What I am looking for is an IR sensor that can connect the NXT to the older brick using IR, as well as connecting the NXT to the Power Functions R/C controllers. The two I've seen so far are http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=2855040&cn=17 Item #: 2855040 and http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=MS1046&cn=17 Item #: MS1046. What I was wondering is which of these are better for my purposes, and if there are any others which are better? Thanks in advance! Edit: I would like the NXT to be able to send AND receive information from the older mindstorms brick, and receive information from the PF RC. Edited July 23, 2010 by Kalapixie Quote

The RCX has a very annoying protocol, I have played with it a bit, but anyway. http://www.mindsensors.com/ has one: http://www.mindsensors.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=59 Quote
Jetro Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 You want to do two diffrent things: transmit IR signals and receive IR signals. For those two different tasks you need two different sensors. HiTechnic has an IRLink sensor that enables you to send messages to the old yellow RCX MINDSTORS brick, send commands to RC train receivers and to PF IR receivers. They also have an IR Receiver which can receive signals from a PF remote control but canno receive messages from the RCX or RC remote control. These are the two sensors you have linked to on the LEGO website. Quote

Yes, I was thinking "HiTechnic" too. You can read all about the HiTechnic products at http://www.hitechnic.com/ . Quote
