The Yellow Brick Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Here is a graphic that shows the Lego sets with more than 2500 parts. First, we can notice that all these sets were released in the past 10 years, and that obviously there is a ride towards the biggest. *Snip* Intresting Graph Yendred Quote
Yendred Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Intresting Graph Yendred Thanks ! Data gathered from Peeron of course : http://peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/setsearch?PcsS=2500 Quote

Yendred Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Thanks! It would also be interesting to see this graph with "Year" exchanged with "Price"! I guess you'll see that the price is not directly linked to the number of parts. Licensing and type of parts are to be taken into account. Quote

Yendred Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Exactly, that was why I thought it would be interesting! Hope this graph helps. As we can except, Star Wars sets are the most expensive. Grand Carousel is an exception because it contains a motor. The surprise comes from the Statue of Liberty which is rather expensive in its category. Maybe because it was the first set of this type. This is based upon prices indicated by Peeron. Quote
Adam the Ant Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 (edited) Does anyone know how the pieces are stored in the box? Are they in bags, tubs, I'm guessing tan wedges will have a bag to themselves? Also has anyone done a review yet or planning to do one? Edit: When my order arrives I will take pictures when unboxing and post images, if no one has done so by then. Hopefully I will get a review done soon afterwards. Adam the Ant Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) My set arrived this morning I will take pictures of the unboxing and upload them as soon as possible. Edit: Should I post images in this thread or start a new one? Edited October 6, 2010 by Adam the Ant Quote
MetroiD Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hope this graph helps. Thanks, that's some great information right there! Should I post images in this thread or start a new one? You could always post a review of the set, if you're up to it Quote
Adam the Ant Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 You could always post a review of the set, if you're up to it I'm up to reviewing it, but I thought I would post the unboxing and then post the review later. Do you know which forum would be best to post it in? Quote
MetroiD Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Do you know which forum would be best to post it in? I guess Town, seeing as it is a Town set of sorts, after all... I totally envy you, by the way... Enjoy the unboxing & building ;) Quote

Some of the high volume pieces are in their own bags separately. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending if you like to sort), this makes the building process longer since you're looking for one piece in the middle of 6,000 pieces. The Eiffel Tower separated each part in their own bag if I remember correctly. After building those two, I can't wait to get my hands on the Tower Bridge. I'll tell you what though, building those big sets really makes the $130 Hogwarts Castle look small and not worth it. Quote

It's packed like the taj mahal except for the cardboard containers. its just the box and the bags with pieces. The only pieces that are packed seperated from the rest are the tan cheese pieces. still not all of them. For displaying: Got it yesterday and its finished now. It stands beautiful on top of my 1.30 meters length aquarium. Quote
TheWarden Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 This is probably not news worthy, but I saw this in person at LEGO Store Cincinnati and it is... beautiful. Definitely awe-inspiring. I wonder if it is on display at other LEGO stores. Might be worth a phone call to your local one if you are interested. Quote

astra Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Received my copy yesterday! That box contains a lot of parts! Opening the bags really annoyed my wife... She couldn't stand the noise... Anyway, started building and after 2.5 hours the bridge deck and the first half of a tower was completed... There really are some nice and amazing building techniques used in the TowerBridge. Quote

I'm at a similar stage as you, but I'm building both towers at the same time, just have to keep remembering to find double the amount of pieces Quote
astra Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I'm at a similar stage as you, but I'm building both towers at the same time, just have to keep remembering to find double the amount of pieces Ah ok! I'm building one tower at a time, pictures of building my Tower Bridge can be found here: Brickshelf Folder (when made public off course) Quote
DLuders Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 There was a "Speed Build" of the 10214 Tower Bridge set at the LEGO FAN Weekend, Skærbæk, Denmark - 25th to 27th September 2010. They were building the Tower Bridge as fast as possible, and did it in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 21 seconds! Cassiebsg posted 4 videos: (51 seconds) -- Sorting the bricks: YouTube Video Part 2 (22 seconds) -- (56 seconds) -- Admiring the completed set: YouTube Video Part 4 (23 seconds) -- Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 That fast! I could barely finish in 6 hours! Quote
blueandwhite Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Tower Bridge certainly is a nice looking set but I really wish LEGO had included the end towers. Somehow it looks incomplete without them. I appreciate that this would have driven the cost up even more, but given the iconic nature of the bridge you would hope that they would include the anchor towers as well. I'm still sitting on the fence for this set. Quote
astra Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 That fast! I could barely finish in 6 hours! 6 hours? thats also not bad! It took me 8.5 hours to complete the Bridge! But I didn't build the two Towers together, first one and then the other Quote

But I didn't build the two Towers together, first one and then the other Thanks, and that must be why. I built both at once. And I can't take full credit, because my two sons helped me. Quote
Notorious Guf Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Sorry if this is a little off topic, but this topic is current and seemed pointless starting a new topic. I'm going to buy this set when it hits the shelves here in Australia, however I was also wondering if the Taj Mahal is worth picking up, more so to use for MOCing? I can get it near half RRP and works out cheap for the amount of pieces included. There appears to be some useful pieces and a lot of not so useful pieces. Quote
