happymark Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I find majority people like City/castle/starwars etc. but very few people like sports themes , soccer (football in EU), basketball. I find the soccer players minifig is the cheapest? so does it indicate that most AFOL are not fans of sports? :) Quote
Wout Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Maybe afols finds the sports theme not very interesting? I personally like sports a bit, but I haven't thought of making a moc of it. In the old sports sets, the fields were already easily made. Although you can make a much better moc of it. The skier in the second line of the minifig collection can be used for a nice snowmountain landscape. With all respect, I thought football is only in the U.S.A. (and Canada?) called soccer. When I was young, I called american footbal "American Rugby" . Edited July 20, 2010 by Wout Quote
ZeeK Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 IMO, LEGO sport themes are great source of various very interesting elements, especially minifigures (the NBA will help you to use three different skin colors for minifigures!). We've played basketball during one of our community meetings: However, building anything sports-related in "true" minifigure-scale (whicj is about 1/40 to 1/45) is rather big and expensive and, on the other side, there're few reasons to have 1*2 meter football field at home with 25 minifigs on it (the seats will make the size 2*3 meters and will require thousands bricks/minifigs!!!) But i think that it's very interesting to go beyond minifigs with sports: as long some LEGO store give-aways dedicated to baseball... Quote
Set Sprinter Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 LEGO Sports was very interesting theme. Maybe AFOLs don't like this series, because there aren't a lot of special parts? I don't know. I have two Football sets. The biggest I have is Championship Challange 3409. Beautifull stadium and great thing to spend free time . Quote
Carbohydrates Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) I would imagine that since they're architecturally uninteresting and focus primarily on the minifigs, most of which aren't much use in a context outside of sports, AFOLs wouldn't be too thrilled about the line. At least, that's my reasoning. Edited July 20, 2010 by Carbohydrates Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Trying to get a minifig to drop kick a ball or score a try/touchdown (depending on which game it's called) is quite hard to do ! Anyway 'Wout' what's this 'American rugby' - they throw the ball forward most of the time and in rugby league or union the ball is passed back to either run or drop kick forward. I'm a conformist! ! XimenaPaulina Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 (edited) I can't speak for others but personally, I would say that my passion for lego equals my passion for sports. I like sports very much, most especially basketball (NBA), but I'm also into tennis, boxing, UFC, etc. When I'm not doing legos, I watch/play sports, and vice-versa. The reason why most AFOLs might not be interested in the sports theme legos is because the builds that you can do in sports themes are very limited to the athlete minifigs and some accessories (balls), compared to other themes where there are limitless building possibilities (vehicles, buildings, etc.).
