Hoboman Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 As my son and I continue to "grow" our collection, we have branched out to Kingdoms. I bought him a couple items and he wanted more men. I see they made a couple of "Battle Packs" with extra men. But I could not find them. The local Lego Store, KMart, Target, Lego-on-line etc did not have them. Where they a limited time/number kind of thing? Do they still make them? Did we just miss out? Any help/info would be wonderful. Thank You PS: Yes I know I could get them one figure at a time on ebay or as full packs for a 50% mark-up. I would just like to avoid it if possable. Quote
Piratedave84 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I just verified on the Lego S@H site and they (in Canada) are listed as sold out for both battle packs. They might produce more or issue a different serie as they had quality issues with the printing. Pirate Quote
Sid Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 My local Lego store has plenty of them. I went last week and bought 3 of each. I went this past weekend and they still had a lot on display. I plan on getting more in the future but not for the time being. Strange how some of the Lego retail stores have them yet S@H U.S. doesn't while other countries still have them in stock. Happy hunting Quote
Hoboman Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Thanks guys, so to be clear it was not a "limited edition" kin dof thing, right? It makes me frustraited to see something as basic as that go unavailable and then to see ebay sellers with "more then 10" auctions selling a $15 item for $25-$30. At this point there are older knights for less on ebay. Quote
Orcasek Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I hate the Chinese parts so I sadly can't buy battle packs. Quote

However, next time I go to the store I can pick some up for you and ship them to you at your cost. Just pay for the sets/tax/shipping. I hope it's not a limited edition thing. Quote
Hoboman Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 I hate the Chinese parts so I sadly can't buy battle packs. So you are saying Lego uses Chinese parts in the Kingdoms Battle Packs? I am unsure I understand. Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 They are availible, but they are exclusive to S@H and Lego brand retail stores, so you wont find them anywhere else. Quote
Orcasek Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 So you are saying Lego uses Chinese parts in the Kingdoms Battle Packs? I am unsure I understand. Yeah, like the arms and legs look cheaper and break easier. Quote
Hoboman Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 They are availible, but they are exclusive to S@H and Lego brand retail stores, so you wont find them anywhere else. That helps narrow down the search. I will stick to the two local Lego stores and on-line then. Thanks Quote
Hoboman Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 Yeah, like the arms and legs look cheaper and break easier. So are you saying that Lego is using a lower quality figure in the battle packs or are you saying all of the Kingdoms figures are of a lower quality? Quote
Carbohydrates Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 So are you saying that Lego is using a lower quality figure in the battle packs or are you saying all of the Kingdoms figures are of a lower quality? Just the battle packs. Battle packs, the collectible and vintage minifig series, magnets, and certain specialized parts of other sets (camels in PoP sets, figs in Toy Story sets) are made in China at a lower cost with varying results. If this is your first run-in with the Chinese plastic, consider yourself lucky. It's not unbelievably horrible, but it is noticeably lower quality and it's an ugly direction for LEGO to be going, IMO. Most of us who are into this hobby are resigned to the fact that it isn't a particularly cheap one, and so I think I'm not alone when I say I'd rather pay a little extra for minifigs to ensure they're built to the amazing quality standards we're used to and that they'll stand the test of time. Sorry for the diatribe, and back to your regularly scheduled thread! Quote
Hoboman Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 Thanks Carbohydrates, As someone who is just returning it is nice to know what I am up against in this regard. It is a shame they have gone this way though. Lego was one brand I always thought of as high quality. I hope they do not live to regret this move. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted July 22, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted July 22, 2010 I hate the Chinese parts so I sadly can't buy battle packs. Yeah, like the arms and legs look cheaper and break easier. If you make these kind of statements, please provide proper context and clearly explain what you are saying. It gets on my nerves reading these one-liners and people have to continuously guess and ask for clarification. Speak very clear language or just don't saying anything at all! I'm not surprised seeing in your profile you are only 14. Did you know we are an adult LEGO community? Let's have a little chat! On the subject: Yes, some stuff outsources to China has lower quality. Personally I can't say anything about these battlepacks because I have not seen them, but it's advisable to start with buying just one and check them out before buying a lot. This is sad indeed, but I've seen improvement over time and the stuff from China seems to be getting better. Quote
Apache Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Daniel's Dad, I am also a big "Lots of Minifigs" guy but have refused to buy the Battlepacks because like others have said, the legs are terrible and the hands don't grip as well. If your old like me and are used to quality ABS plastic, you won't like them. Kids really can't tell a difference or don't care, but I think you will. I also refuse to pay Bricklink prices so here is some advice I've posted in other threads but will share with you, because I think you are trying to collect both Lion and Dragon Knights. Take advantage of the TRU Buy One Get one Half off sales. They have had two in the past 30 days and will probably have another one before Christmas. You can buy mulitple Sets of the Prison Carriage and with the BOGO it comes out to $16.50 for 6 Knights, 2 Horses with Unicorn Armor and pieces. And all parts are regular hard ABS plastic. Now compare that to a $15 battle pack with no extra pieces besides weapons and armor and no Horses, and you will have the cheap legs and hands. Good luck in your hunt for more men, I hope people keep buying these and force Lego to create more factions. Quote

Stiel Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Question. Are the shields good quality? I ask because I plan to order a few shields from BL (figures only from boxed sets) and it would be nice to know whether there are any low quality Kingdoms shields out there or not. So, anyone who has opened battlepacks - please tell about the shields. Thank you in advance. Edited July 23, 2010 by Stiel Quote
Sir Fred Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I bought three dragon battle packs and on all of them there was no noticeable quality difference with the shields to those from regular sets. Quote
Cpt. Dan Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I know in the US they are on backorder until Oct. 4, I am not sure about the rest of the world. I am hoping they are backordered because they are changing up their materials. The review posted on these battle packs shows what the quality was like and from what I saw it was dissapointing. I was hoping they would be really good. Either way, I think I will still get one each because I like the variety they put in for battles, MOCs, etc. I wish they would go back to the boxed sets. Oh, the Golden Age Quote

I did not see any difference with the shields at all. To be honest I did not see any difference in any of the weapons either. One figure was not holding the stuff well, but overall it was good enough for childs play (they were for my six year old). Quote
Artanis I Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I have ordered one of each. We'll see how we go! Quote

As far as I know the accessories like shields, swords, hats, hair and even heads are all the same quality plastic found in the regular sets. The legs and hands are definately different and in some cases (pirate tic-tac toe) the red torsos on the soldiers is a dark pink rather than Red. Quote
