Space hanger

Has anyone ever built a plane hanger for space ships? I am about to start on one for my SP3 set and just looking for some ideas. Most likely it will follow a similar design of the space base hanger with colors and the sliding yellow/black door.

Well, you can get inspiration from various fonts, from mech-bays, to many SW bases/hangers (just type 'Space hanger' or 'Space base' on Brickshelf), to Hanger Bay 4 by thire5.

This one from a bigger ship can also be of interest for the huge control room windows display (by Omicron77 on Flickr)

If you prefer micro scale (which I sense is not what you're looking for, but could still be interesting), looka at this Battlestar Galactica Hanger by Dunechaser (again, via Flickr).

Thanks for the info and some good ideas! I am trying to make something that goes along with the SP3 base and is big enough to fit most of the police ships in it/on it with defence systems also. I just started playing with the design program so hopefully I can get this designed soon and start ordering the pieces to make it happen.

The LDD program is a really great program and I am enjoying learning it and playing with it. I have run into some issues though with the way I want my massive hanger to work. I can't figure out how to do the doors like the SP3 space base is done. Anyone have any ideas on how to make a larger door with the same type panels?

Try looking at this nice video about sliding doors by TLG. I find it very interesting, though I lack the second kind of sliding baseplate.

Pretty good little video. The first gray sliding door he showed could be a good hangar door. Anyone know what the clicking pieces were that locked the doors together?

You mean the handle-lke part? It's just part of the door itself

Not exactly a space hangar, but essential for any SP creation. Again I am referencing Xenobuzz's creation (this guy really needs an account here)
