Oky Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) In order to make Avatar: The Last Airbender look good again after M.N.S. ruined it with the recently released movie, I decided to make a MOC of one of the most epic scenes in the series: the moment when Aang goes into the Avatar state and creates swirling rings of the four elements, air, fire, earth, and water, around himself and hunts Firelord Ozai down. Here are some reference pics: Sans Photoshopping: Propelled by their enhanced bending powers, the two speed over the Wulong Forest. Run, Ozai, run! Unfortunately the fire ring got displaced during the photo shoot. I chose a transparent base to emphasize how high up they are flying. And here are the figs on their own: Ozai and Avatar State Aang. I was forced to use the tri-nipple torso for Aang because I only have one of the muscular torso. The white arrow was a pain to cut out and apply, and it didn't stick as good as I hoped. Oh well, he still looks decent, I think, but it makes me sad that we never got a minifig of him in the avatar state. Or with a serious face for that matter. You can find more pics in this Brickshelf folder. Let me know what you think! Go Avatar! Edited July 13, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
RileyC Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Sweet! I love Avatar and this moc is so cool! Aang looks great even though Im not sure about the use of Patricks body. I also think using Aang original face would have been fine cause then you wouldnt have had to glue on an arrow. Ozai looks spot on. Good face and nice cuts added as well. Aang's Bending circles look great and you've used some good techniques. Awesome work Oky! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Wow that's a very cool MOC Oky Wan! You really captured the overall scene based on the reference pic. Nice way to use the sunglassed-head as Aang in Avatar state. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 AWESOME MOC 'Oky Wan' - Yes, the Fire Nation must be defeated ! Excellent custom minifigs too ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
-R8- Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Quite a convincing effect! Great application of transparent pieces. The vortex was pulled off very well and really does a nice job of depicting the intensity and dynamic of the scene. I also commend your decision to use a transparent base plate, as it does help give off the impression that the rock formations are mountaintops. Quote
Dan the Brickman Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I haven't gotten into avatar really, but now this almost makes me want to. That is kinda cool. How did you make the fire ring? are they glued, or somehow "locked" into each other?'' Quote
Admiral Ron Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 This is great! I love Avatar, and I feel you did it justice with this scene, great work! Quote
LegoDad42 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Looks so cool! Great Avatar scene. You really captured the whole look and feel! Quote
Oky Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks guys. My amazing brickbending powers helped in the creation of this MOC. Aang looks great even though Im not sure about the use of Patricks body. Yeah, I might post an update when I get a second muscular torso. I haven't gotten into avatar really, but now this almost makes me want to. That is kinda cool. How did you make the fire ring? are they glued, or somehow "locked" into each other?'' You should really have a look at it! Don't let its anime-influenced style put you off! It's one of the greatest cartoons ever! And yes, if you take a look at the hi-res pics you will see that they do "lock" into each other. Quote
Batbrick Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Fantastic creation Oky! I love the way you've done the four elements, utterly inspired! Especially for water, I imagine that was tricky to think of. Visually the rocks look the best though. Congratulations on adapting one of my favourite scenes from the show so well! I'm not a fan of how Aang looks honestly, mostly the face, but Ozai is brilliant, I can't think of a better face choice. My only criticism is how small the pillars are. I understand they would be hard to make without getting in the way, butI still think if they were a bit taller the moc would look a lot more visually appealing. Batbrick Away! Quote
Aethersprite Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 For a MOC that doesn't use custom minifig parts, this is brilliant! A:TLA has got to be one of my favourite things of all time (along with Lego, of course) and recently I've stayed qutie far from it due to the fact that I anticipated Shyamalan's TLA for over 2 years and it turned out to be a flop... This MOC really revived the Avatard in me. I'm off to see that episode now! Quote
Alex the Great Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 This is a great scene! I usually don't like anime type of cartoons, but I really love Avatar. This is quite a difficult MOC to do, kudos. Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 This is another great ATLA moc from Oky Wan Kenobi. For the record, I like TLA! Quote
squidman85 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 This is a great scene! I usually don't like anime type of cartoons, but I really love Avatar. It's not quite an anime. It has a different kind of animation.Anyway,i like this MOC,and i like how you do the head of Aang in Avatar state and Ozai, but i don't very like the patrick torso. Why don't lego make some nake torso's? Well, he has a naked torso-- for Ozai. As he said in the first post, he didn't have two of them. They don't have any naked torsos that aren't that buff, but Aang was animated to look awfully buff in some scenes of the finale, so if you do get your hands on a second shirtless torso, I wouldn't hold it against you to use it on Aang! badboytje88 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I think this is awesome! Great head choice for Aang. The edited photo looks so much like the real scene. Superb! Quote
blhc11 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 This battle seems to be heating up(the pun had to be made!=D)Aang in avatar state looks cool(specialy with the sunglasses) I love how you made it but I personaly would have either customized a batman face(I don't know how though) or brush out the smile on the bruce wayne/most other male characters head. Ozai's face was in my opinion the best head you could have chosen, the figure looks great! The element "rings" look great too, specialy since bending is something I find excrusciatingly hard to do... I know that the theme stank(it shouldn't have seeing the material on what it was based, that's what I call an epic FAIL, lego) and seeing how you made this makes me want to go yet again to bricklink to try ad find one of the two sets for a decent price(they never sold them on my country...), and that is saying ALOT. I hope to see more mocs from you "Oky"(do you mind a complete stranger call you that? I think a lol is needed to lighten the mood and show I'm not serious, but I won't add it 'cause I'm too cool for that non-sense) It's nice to meet other "Avatards"(not to be confused with the James Cameron related avatards, I seriously need to see that movie...). Cheers. By- possibly the strangest person to ever play "new super mario bros. wii" without being on some funny substances(if I was on "funny substances" I would probably not be playing super mario... I have "gta:san andreas" for thoose occasions... I "own" alot) P.s: sorry for the awkwardness, I forgot to take my pills(they ARE medicinal)... Quote
prateek Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 How did I miss this? This is awesome! The fire ring looks pretty cool, and I like how you used the sunglasses print for Aangs face Quote
