Nebsirob Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) INDEXED Set Number: 7848 Name: Toys R Us delivery truck Theme: City Year of Release: 2010 Pieces: 356 Minifigs: 3 Price: 29.99 Euro BrickLink BrickSet --------------------------------- Hello, this is my first review of a Lego set. I hope you like it. The box shows our brave hero, who arrives just in time to fill up the shelves of Lego City´s first Toys'R'Us. As you can see, the poor saleswoman already tried to bribe the kid, by giving him a car for free. The box is about the same size as the one from his yellow brother 3221. (Just a couple of inches thicker). And, as always, it is barely half filled. The sides of the box shows us the Minifigs, and the front picture. The back gives an impression of the shop´s interior, as well as the proof, that the boy only wanted to buy Lego (and no toy-car). After opening the box, we´ll get 4 bags, 2 instruction-books, a DSS, and 3 dark bley plates (one of them is a baseplate). The DSS (sorry for the blurry pic) gives us 14 stickers. Fortunally, my sheet wasn´t bend, or wrinkled. A random page from the 2nd book. This is, what you get, when you open (and sort) the 4 bags. The inventory pages (also blurry... even though, I used my scanner for this one). Here are the 3 Minifigs. The Driver, is just the same, as in 3221. The saleswoman has a dark bley jacket with a purple scarf. The boy wears a white/light blue hoodie... ...which is also printed on the back. Since the Truck is basicly the same as 3221, I'll just show the results of the first three bags: Bag 1 Bag 2 The Truck (Bags 1 & 2) The Trailer (Bag 3) Finally, we´ll look at the contents of the 4. bag: Random exterior shot during the build. Random interior shot during the build. A close-up of the 3 new Lego-Lego-sets. Unfortunally, just one police-bike. The fire-truck comes in 2 different boxes. One is just a tile on a plate, and the other has the tile attached to a 2x2 brick. The Lego-sets are attached to the yellow plate, to avoid their downfall. The trans-clear panels work nicely as shelves. A close-up of the toy-car and the small hovercraft. They are attached via a black 1x1 round plate. The other side of the shop, featuring the miniatures, and the toy-weapons in a barrel. The front of the store is covered by two 2x2 tiles and a blue 2x4 tile. Each of them gets it's own sticker. The completed store. (Bag 4). Interior shot of the store. And finally a picture of the entire set. Spare parts. The truck itself is just great. Just like his 3221-counterpart he´s huge, he´s powerfull, and a great addition to any Lego-town/-city/-collection. The minifigs are also fantastic. The driver may be the same, as in 3221, but you can always change parts and create new/different civilians. Speaking of civilians, the saleswoman is adorable. A nice torso (jacket with scarf), and not (yet) overused hair. As for the boy: I like his hoodie and the uncommon face with brown eyebrows and the smirky smile. The Store may seem a little small, but it is nevertheless a nice piece of diorama, which can easily be extended. Plus, it is packed with a lot of toys... Lego, miniatures, "toy"-weapons, and a bear. Bonus: A comparison-shot of 3221 and 7848. The payloads. The "supporting cast". Trailer-mix. Thank you for the read. Neb Edited July 10, 2010 by Nebsirob Quote
prateek Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) Cool review. I like that you compared it to the yellow version The interior of the store is much better than I expected. I like the SNOT shelves the best. It's so clever Edited July 10, 2010 by prateek Quote
GRogall Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Ye, thanks for the review! also I heard a rumor that there might be one more exclusive set this year or next using the same truck but again in a different colour........ Quote
SirWacky Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Thanks for the review! I love the little TRU Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Thanks for the review 'Nebsirob' - I have already started using the SNOT shop fitting idea in my town's stores, Lego have been very clever while keeping it simple. Since 'grogall' posted the picture of building combo's from 7641/7633/8403 I guess adding an extra storey or three would not be impossible ! Again the truck is COOL, though I still not sure about the length of the prime mover or size it's wheels ? Thanks again 'Nebsirob' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
jonwil Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Thanks for the review, its a good set but it has no parts in it I need. I think the yellow truck is a better buy :) (and I cant afford both) Quote
dr_spock Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks for the review. I like how they did the displays in the small store. Quote
Carbohydrates Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Pretty nice, but I think I prefer the yellow LEGO truck and that store is laughably tiny. It's a cute idea for an exclusive, but it gets a little difficult to take seriously when you could break down and fit the store inside of the truck. Possibly two or three of them. Quote
Fires-storm Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Hmm, an interesting set to be sure, I may have to buy it just for some of the really useful looking pieces I wish my TRU sold guns and swords, I'd go there all the time Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Eh. Nice set, but after getting the Lego truck, I'll pass. That's just too much money to spend for that tiny little storefront. Besides, anyone else have more big trailer trucks than cars?? Either way, nice review and keep 'em coming! Quote
Vestabuyer Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Greetings! Nice Review! Does anyone know when this will hit the States? Quote
BoobyToy Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I'm hoping they come in this week since I need 2 and TRU has there sale on till Saturday Quote
Scorpio Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I picked up two of them from Toys R Us today in Illinois (more specifically North Riverside Toys R Us) Quote
The Cobra Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 In my book, a Limited Edition set can not be rated Outstanding, so I chose Above average. Thanks for the review! Quote
crossmr Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Pretty nice, but I think I prefer the yellow LEGO truck and that store is laughably tiny. It's a cute idea for an exclusive, but it gets a little difficult to take seriously when you could break down and fit the store inside of the truck. Possibly two or three of them. Gotta agree. The truck does look slick, and it's interesting to have another colour scheme, but the store is silly. A few more bucks and a bigger store would make the set much better. Alternatively if there was another store model that this small store front could attach to that would improve it. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I just naturally see the "store" as being a store front, so the tiny size of the "store" doesn't bother me. I'd just go ahead and add on to it with bricks from my own parts inventory. I very much would like this set, even though I also want the LEGO truck, and two large trailer trucks of this sort is kind of a disproportionately large number for my own LEGO city (to say nothing of both of them being specifically part of toy distribution). Mrlegoninja Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Ye, thanks for the review! also I heard a rumor that there might be one more exclusive set this year or next using the same truck but again in a different colour........ When did you hear this? Why would they make three different versions Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Great review Nebsirob! The set is quite ok, so I voted for Above Average. I like the blue truck better than the yellow one, so good choice of color there. Quote
BoobyToy Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Picked up 2 today.....total with tax =$54.10 Since I'm a rewards member, TRU sends me a small sale catalog about every 3-4 months with usually a $10.00 off coupon (attached to it) when you spend $50.00 dollars or more. So very happy here Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Thank you very much for this great review, Nebsirob! I voted for outstanding  Con: -cash point is much too low (in comparison to the height of a minifig the table reaches only the knee) -air conditionings on both sides of the shop make it impossible to directly put it next to another house Pro: -great design of the truck -perfect minifigure constellation (man, woman and kid) -great design of the shop -a lot of brilliant toys -awesome interior of the shop Klaus-Dieter Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 'Klaus' has a point about the vents on both sides, I deleted the idea from my Toyworld store because of 'it won't between my buildings' problem ! Though I have an idea......car parking - using 8 wide base plates for a parking bay either side of the toy shop might just solve that problem or even turn the brick around and have the vents on the inside so it does look like real AC outlet vents. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
paul_delahaye Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Original poster paid 29.99 Euros so expecting to pay £25 - £29 GBP Nearly fell of my chair when I see the UK price!! TRU link So much for an improvement between the pound and the euro! Quote
The Cobra Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Twice the price of the 3221? And in Germany, 7848 is 20% off... (In Italy we don't even have Toys R us, so we shall seek for cheap on the net) Quote
pacific493 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Does anyone have any idea how long this set is likely to be available? I'm not sure that I want to pull the trigger on it right now, but it seems like one of those sets that could disappear very quickly. Quote
