mvaldeslora Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Hi all. After several years of having it built up and on display I have disassembled my Technics 8461 Williams F1 Racer. I am having some problem with the stickers, though. Portions are dry and brittle and coming off so I need to remove them all. The little buggers are proving persistent where they are not brittle, however. I have tried soaking them in water overnight but with no appreciable effect. Does anyone have a recommendation for easing their removal? How about also ensuring a "sticky-free" surface? Many thanks. Mario Quote
paul_delahaye Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Some electrical degreaser on a soft cloth should shift the sticky residue, but don't use any form of scourer, otherwise you will just scratch your bricks. Paul Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 For all they are worth, LEGO stickers are actually quite durable when faced with water. What I would recommend is using a high concentration rubbing alcohol or cooking oil and saturating the sticker before washing it off with water. However, I must caution that my advice is only based on previous experience with non-LEGO plastics so be sure to test it out on some of your less valuable pieces. There might be a chance that the alcohol or oil may make the bricks brittle. Or you can always use a commercial product. Granted it is more expensive, but it might get you better results. Although I have never tried it, some research points to the product Un-Do as a formidable solution (and the videos are good demonstrations). Still, it would be best to try it out on some less valuable pieces first. Quote
